Cuban to "pull out all the stops" in bid for Cubs

Cuban says he will 'pull out all the stops' in bid to buy Cubs -- ChicagoSports.com

As a Cubs fan I am PRAYING this guy finds a way to buy the Cubs. An owner that will sit in the bleachers and cares about winning unlike the "suits" that care about the bottom line is just what MLB needs.

I would definitely be supportive of his bid.

Re: Cuban to "pull out all the stops" in bid for Cubs

I'd love to see Mark Cuban buy my Cubbies. However I don't think Bud Selig wants to let him into the Owner's Club. Didn't Cuban already get a Creston Police Chief's country club style welcome when trying to buy the Pirates a year or 2 ago?

I don't think they want him as an owner either, but hopefully fan support can help deter this.

If he abides by the terms of the bidding, and his bid is highest I don't think that they can discriminate... can they?

I thought the other owners could veto the sale, to not allow a particular owner into the baseball owners group, but for the most part they don't.

Re: Cuban to "pull out all the stops" in bid for Cubs

This guy makes me wary for some reason. He could end up being a great owner, but also could be one big loose cannon.

I think I'd prefer a group of local Chicago investors.

On a side note I hope whoever buys the Cubs build a new stadium(however keeping the Ivy, score board and front facade). They need to do something like the Cardinals did. What a beautiful stadium.

He'll make them a winner, no matter the cost. No one wanted to play in Dallas before he took over.

    A. The owners vote on who they want to own the team. I don't think any of the teams sold recently have gone to the highest bidder. I know the Dodgers and Red Sox did not.

    B. Cuban doesn't have near the money some of the other rumored groups do, so I don't even see him being the highest bidder without bringing in some partners.

All he needs to do is tear down the grandstands and rebuild them. The bleachers are practically brand new and the playing field is brand new.

Where would they play for two years? That's the minimum time to construct/reconstruct a 30,000 plus seat baseball stadium.

Re: Cuban to "pull out all the stops" in bid for Cubs

Not sure what to make of Cuban yet. I can see positives and negatives.

As for Wrigley Field, it isn't going anywhere for a long time, and it shouldn't. I have been to 53 games there and everyone was amazing no matter what the final score was. Despite what some people say (who have probably never even been there) the place isn't falling down. Is there a need for some further renovations in some areas yes, but it is far from falling down.

Re: Cuban to "pull out all the stops" in bid for Cubs

There are several local groups in Chicago that want to buy the team. Screw Cuban. All we need is for him jumping out of the bleachers and fighting with the umpires.

The man is a publicity stunt. And his Maverick teams have never gotten over the hump.

Re: Cuban to "pull out all the stops" in bid for Cubs

Considering the Mavs are contenders about every year now compared to the doormat of the NBA when Cuban bought them I see no harm with him buying the Cubs and turning them into consistent winners too. Plus the NBA has a salary cap, MLB doesn't so it's easier to add players to help you win compared to the NBA where you have to make the salaries work to stay under the cap.

He's said if he buys the Cubs his seats will be in the RF bleachers which I think is awesome. How many owners are that fan friendly?
