    Sox vs. Twins Series 6/6-6/10

Sox and the Twinkies match up for a 4 game set this weekend (one game being a make-up of a rain out earlier in the year). I fully expect that the Sox will split the series with MN as they've always had problems against them. Taking 3 of 4 at home to take a 4.5 game lead would be huge in my opinion as the Sox still have 7 games left to play at the Metrodome where they always struggle. At quick look at the matchups:

Vazquez vs. Blackburn - Vasquez struck out 10 players in his last outting, a 0-2 loss to Tampa Bay
Buerhle vs. Hernandez - Buerhle owns a 20-11 record lifetime against the Twins, but lost in his only game against them this season
Floyd vs. Slowey - Floyd nearly no-hit the Twins in his last apperance against them
Contreras vs. Perkins - Jose comes in 4-0 with a 1.55 ERA in his last 6 apperances

Should be a good weekend of baseball on the southside this weekend!! Come on Sox, let's take 3 of 4!!

Re: Sox vs. Twins Series 6/6-6/10

Twins are 18-9 against the central this year. Here's to hoping that stays consistent.

    Should be a good series.

Vazquez vs. Blackburn - Blackburn is coming off an 8 inning shutout start, but was hit in the face with a line drive to knock him out. Hopefully it will not affect him and he will return to form. I read that Morneau hits Vazquez hard, 6 homers and 12 RBI against him.

    Buerhle vs. Hernandez
    - Livan rolled to a 13-1 win last time out against the sox... and he'll bounce back from two sub par starts to do it again. Buerhle only has 1 win in his last 10 starts.

Floyd vs. Slowey - This matchup will be tough for the Twins. They need Slowey to start stepping up his game.

Contreras vs. Perkins - Perkins usually pitches very well to teams that haven't seen him... I expect a low scoring game.

I see a series split as well... but could see the Twins taking 3 of 4!

I'd love it to stay this way... but I think you might be getting ahead of yourself thinking the Twins and White Sox will be the ones battling for the division.

With how bad Detroit and Cleveland have played this year, to only be 9 and 6.5 games back is frightening.

The Sox are a solid 17-8 in the central this year so the series spilt seems likely. The only reason I would see 3 of 4 to the Sox is due to them being at home. Should be a good one to watch, cant wait.

Lets GO GO GO GO White Sox!

Re: Sox vs. Twins Series 6/6-6/10

Thanks for the Twins perspective, I obviously don't follow them as close as you might.

The Sox tend to struggle against LHP, especially LHP that they haven't seen or have barely faced. This could come into play in the last game of the set.

Buerhle hasn't been the same pitcher since he got his contract extension last season. He has to bounce back at some point, might as well make it this weekend. However, I read somewhere that both he and Gavin Floyd are in the top 10 in the league in the least amount of run support.

Bottom line, the Sox need to score some runs!!

They're playing each other this weekend, so unless one sweeps the other, everybody will be in about the same position after Monday. I agree there is a lot of season left, but you don't just bounce back from 11 games under .500 like the Tigers are right now, they've got issues. If anybody is going to make a run I'd expect it be the Indians, their SP is top notch, they're just not giving them any run support.

Re: Sox vs. Twins Series 6/6-6/10

I agree with the Indians being the most likely. The thing that might be the catch though is that I see the Sox and Twins hovering around their current spot all season, +/- 5 games within .500. I just don't see either of them climbing to 10-15 games above .500 to lock up the division.

One solid 10 game stretch for the Indians or Tigers (say 8-2 or 9-1), this will get really interesting.

Re: Sox vs. Twins Series 6/6-6/10

Nobody will run away with this division, that's why these games in the first half of the season are so important. However the Sox play 10 more games at home than the Twins do the rest of the season, so they need to take advantage of those games. They also need to take advantage of those 16 games they have left with the Royals...

Now that's an advantage if I've ever seen one!

Blackburn is extremely susceptible to the baseball in the face.

I beleive if Carlos Gomez steals more then 3 bases and the Twins get more HRs the twins will take 3 out of 4.

If Gomez gets on base, the only pitcher who can stop him from running is Buehrle.

Are the Sox really moving Contreras up to pitch in Danks' spot in the fourth game? I like it.
