    Face of the Program

Kind of a cool little piece on CFN in re: to an ESPN bit... but the writer goes on to name a "face" for every BCS program plus a few more.
    Scout.com: ASK CFN (6/6) - Every Team's Mr. Football

    Here's some:
Iowa – Haden Fry Player: Nile Kinnick
    Iowa State – Seneca Wallace

Nebraska – Tom Osborne Player: Johnny Rodgers
Notre Dame – Knute Rockne Player: George Gipp
USC – John McKay Player: Charles White (but it’s really O.J.) ***I think this depends on which age group you ask***

I kind of thought that too - not every school had a coach/player combo. But do you choose Mac over Majors? I think it's a tough choice...

Mac probably gets the nod here since he actually won some of his bowl games. However, if Majors were coaching nowadays his teams would be going to bowls more often.

I am kind of surprised they didn't say Troy Davis, but maybe that's because he played on some godawful teams, whereas Seneca's were pretty fair.

    Re: Face of the Program

Surprised that the Cornholer face of the program was the felon who robbed a gas station, and not the one who beat up his girlfriend and threw her down a flight of steps.

    Re: Face of the Program

Well, we need to remember that the writer was going with the FIRST name that popped into his head about that school. I completely understand how Seneca was that name - heck, they still show his great run as one of the best plays in college football. Because of that, I have no problem with Seneca being the "face".

Though ISU has had many good coaches come through, and Mac was probably the one who brought them up to respectable, I would have a tough time putting a coach as the "face" of the program because most people would not know that "face".

Just my 2 cents (or less).

    Re: Face of the Program

It's kind of sad that the face of our program had a 6-7 senior year.

ISU was actually 7-7 that year. And losing to Boise St. at their stadium doesn't hurt as much now for some reason.

How exactly did we have a 14 game season?

11-game normal schedule. Teams were allowed to schedule a 12th game in 2002 [and 2003] because of the calendar (UConn). ISU played in an "exception" game (Eddie Robinson Classic). The bowl game was #14.

Marshall has Chad Pennington over Randy Moss? Interesting selection.

I would tend to agree with this one, actually. Either Pennington or Byron Leftwich--I don't think Randy Moss is even in the discussion.

What about this guy? 2 time Heisman finalist?!? I love Seneca, but troy has done something no other NCAA player ever has.
