    New coach = New logo?

That seems to be the way it works at ISU and other places. Here's an early vote for the traditional walking CY on a real gold helmet against a cardinal uniform.

I second that! Our colors are cardinal and gold, not red and yellow (or white or navy!)

Re: New coach = New logo?

I'd be absolutely shocked to see a new logo developed. ISU has worked to develop this brand image for over 10 years and they're not just going to throw it away because they hire a new FB coach...

New logo = new products = marketing tactic.

McCarney was the reason behind the new emblem. This is pretty common for lots of schools when a new coach comes in.

They are pumping a dry well with the current logo. I know for a fact, it has not been a success.

If our marketing people need a new logo to come up with new products or marketing tactics, then we really need new marketign people. There are thousands of products and ideas out there that other schools have had success with and look pretty cool, but we just send out the same ol crap. Have you ever gone to Scheels or another store that sells both ISU and Iowa stuff? Iowa has twice as many options on apparel and merchandise that we do. But weve only started to do something about that in the last several years.
There is nothing wrong with our logo. There are variations of it which make it easier to use with certain products. I also really like the old marching CY. But I would like to see us go to an actual Cradinal and Gold motif. Did anyone else notice the new paint job on Hiltons court is all red and gold, no blue except in the logo.

I agree with getting a new logo. This one is alright, but there's just too much going on....I always thought the best logos, at least helmet-wise, were some of the simplest, aka Alabama, Michigan, North Carolina, etc. Those are classic examples that have withstood the test of time.

Like ours in the '60s, with only a cardinal "I" on the helmet, or like the letter jackets.

ps, I wasn't around then, I have seen pictures though.

Re: New coach = New logo?

A simple silouhette style logo is the only way to go. I don't know who thought a busy red logo on a red background looked good. When the logo is shrunk down, it is unidentifiable. The new bball court looks great, with the exception of the blue and white logo at center court, which doesn't match the rest of the court. I wouldn't be surprised if Pollard plans on changing the logo regardless of whether Mac is fired or not. It looks like he is slowly flushing the system of KU blue.

Re: New coach = New logo?

One of the biggest obstacles according to my understanding is to whom gets the profits from the logo and how much. ISU's marketing is very restrictive from my understanding while Iowa takes the approach that volume more than makes up the difference plus it increases the visibility of the team. Not sure how it all breaks down but that is how I understand the situation.

Re: New coach = New logo?

The only complaint (and that may be too strong of a word) I have about our current logo is that it isn't instantly recognizable. You have to read the words to figure it out, more often than not. There are a lot of schools out there that just have a single stylized letter or image as one of their primary logos, and it is quite instantly recognizable. Simple is often better in that niche. My best test for simplicity is watching the team play on TV. Most networks will display the logo alongside stats, or lineups, or occasionally the scores, but they are in boxes that are only an inch or so on a side. If I'm sitting on my couch and I have to sit forward or squint or move closer in order to discern what, exactly, the logo is, then it's too complex for TV. Nebraska has an N. Michigan State has an S. Texas has the longhorn skull. Hell, even Colorado has the buffalo with the CU inside of it.

Honestly, I like our current family of logos and don't want them to get replaced so soon, but I think they need to create a new, simpler addition to the family that better fits purposes like that, where a simple logo is better than lots of style.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Can we just get away from a friggin' red bird that has nothing to do with our school except many moons of history ago?

I vote for Jeremy's Cyclone at the top of the page!!
