    Cyclone Alley Members

Please show up to as many men's and women's basketball games as you can, even our exhibition games. The coaches and players really do appreciate what we do for them at the games. I've heard it from them first hand.

We have a men's as well as women's basketball program that we can all be very proud of. Let's show our support and help bring back Hilton Magic by coming to the games and supporting our teams.

I don't really think there is a problem with any Cyclone Fanatic members not showing up for Cyclone Alley, as they are obviously fanatical fans already. Don't forget to remind your friends when there are games so they can come as well.

I hope to see more Alley members at the men's second exhibition game on Monday night! Let's make it louder than Friday!

    Go State!

And if you do the sit down method on free throws. Do it sooner with more coordination. But I like the idea.

I agree, it is kind of hard to coordinate, and we need to have the sitting motion a little sooner. The game was our first attempt at this, but I think it went pretty well considering. It will also look a lot cooler when we get more fans into Hilton. With more practice it will get better.

Also, it is not the only thing we will be trying for opposing team's free throws. We have several other ideas that we will be teaching. For example, at the women's basketball game this afternoon we did an arm sway to one direction. We will try to mix it up at games once most of the Alley members can get them down pretty well.

It looked decent and it was only the first exhibition game. You guys got time to come along with it.

I would stay away from the arm sway thing. It's pretty well known that it is a big thing at Illinois.

I don't know of anyone known for the sit down thing, but I think it's a pretty good idea. I say stick with that one and try to make it Iowa State's "thing."

    Re: Cyclone Alley Members

I was thinking of that arm sway thing the other night watching the game. Maybe you could alternate diretcions by rows? The sit down thing would be cool if you can get the timing down.

This was done at my high school, and it had good results there. The coordination will come with practice.

    Re: Cyclone Alley Members

Well we as Cyclone Alley have not had an "official thing" to do for free throws and we are trying to find a few that will work that we can call our own. Of course not everything is going to work, or be 100% original but we're trying to be as innovative as possible.

Also note that we don't just want one thing, we are looking for several so we can switch it up during the game to keep the other team guessing. It also keeps it more interesting to the fans in the crowd as well as the Alley members.

I see where your coming from... but if it makes players miss free throws... I don't care... until they show us a copywrite for the idea... I doubt they came up with it first anyway.

The only thing I can think of that would also be cool... we have a little extra room because of steps going up cyclone alley... so get everybody crowded to one side... then have them walk one direction... to the shooter... it will look like the basket is moving one way compared to the background. That would be the toughest thing to shoot against in my opinion...

Yeah, a lot of schools do that arm thing. I don't see any reason why ISU couldn't or shouldn't as well.

I think one of my favorite free throw moments was a few years ago either during an exhibition game or a game against some nobody. One of their players made some weird screaming noise once so the rest of the game everyone would imitate it whenever he touched the ball. It got so loud when he was shooting free throws that even his teammates were laughing in the lane. After he missed them both we decided that was a lot more annoying than just making normal noise.

I remember something like that last year! It was hilarious. I don't remember who we were against though.

I really like the crowd and walk idea!!!!

I agree, the crowd and walk idea sounds really cool, and it might actually work. My favorite moment lat year was when Cyclone Alley was given long balloons and as the opposing team was at the free throw line, Cyclone Alley made really annoying screaching noises with the balloons. The opposing team literally missed EVERY free throw on that side. We need to to that again this year.

We would do that again in a heartbeat, unfortunately, the Big 12 ruled that they were artificial noisemakers thus we can't use them anymore.

I just saw today at the women's basketball game that the guy cheerleaders were told that it's against NCAA rules to beat their hands against those giant megaphones because they are artificial noisemakers.
