Iowa State No. 86 in NY Times Countdown

The Times will preview Iowa State in their Quad blog countdown tomorrow. The Cyclones come in at number 86 out of 119 teams profiled. Obviously not a good number, but pretty expected given our record last year.

If you haven't been reading the Countdown, I highly suggest it. Paul Myerberg is a pretty good writer, and his analysis is usually well researched. Plus, his preview for tomorrow links to Seneca Wallace's run against Texas Tech, which is always fun to watch.

The Quad Countdown: No. 87 Louisiana-Monroe - The Quad - Sports - New York Times Blog

Fun fact: BCS conference teams below us on the list include Stanford, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Baylor & Minnesota. Read Minnesota's profile, it's hilarious. Pretty much thinks crazy Tim Brewster is the worst thing to happen to the state of Minnesota since sub-zero temperatures.

Oh, CF better get the nod. If he pulls out something like the DM Register website, he's lost all credibility.

Re: Iowa State No. 86 in NY Times Countdown

What irks me is what does this guy think about even the Big 12 when a team by his prediction wins 5 games this year, but it is no better than 86th and ranked this low? So does that mean there will 85 teams with 6 wins or better?

    Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
    'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'

could be based on last year's rankings...

Definitely one of the Wildcat teams (Northwestern, Kentucky, Arizona, K-State) - the only mascot that I could count that has 4. I was thinking Tigers, but I could only count 3.

Re: Iowa State No. 86 in NY Times Countdown

    Good Read!
I think a dream season would be 8-5 instead of 7-5 for year 2 for the new staff. The schedule isn't exactly a killer.

I think we need 3-4 wins in Non-Conference. If we can get 4 then we are probably going to get to 7 wins.

Here is my version of a dream season. WINS in BOLD. finish the season 8-4 (4-4) and win the Alamo Bowl against Wisconsin.

Re: Iowa State No. 86 in NY Times Countdown

You guys are missing the FBS designation where this guy is saying #85 is the 1st of 4 Football Subdivision teams better than ISU....

Edit: I see that this is saying 1 of 4 in the FBS with this nickname, sorry for the confusion. But still upset #85 will be a FBS team.

That quote refers to the fact that #85 is the first of 4 FBS teams with the same nickname, jdogg and I believe it to be a Wildcat team.

Doesn't have anything to do with ISU

isn't there like 35 bowl games now? So they assume there 70 6-6 or better teams, so the ranking is not that off.

Umm... There are probably around 85 FBS teams ranked higher than us. FBS = IA, FCS= I-AA

Are you kidding me with that many game televised??? Is that for real?

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”
