Good thing Coleman left; part 2

Looks like Greg Coleman is at it again in Montana. Good move to let him go.

Former UM athlete sentenced for robbery | KULR-8 TELEVISION - Billings, Montana | Montana State News

MISSOULA - A former UM football player has been sentenced to five years in the custody of the state Department of Corrections for his role in a violent, drug-related home invasion.
Twenty-two-year-old Greg Coleman was sentenced yesterday based on a plea agreement that dismissed felony kidnapping charges. The agreement recommends the ex-Grizzly serve his term at the Treasure State Boot Camp in Deer Lodge. Five years of Coleman's 10-year sentence were suspended. Court documents state that a group of men broke into a house November 5th with the intention of stealing money and drugs. One occupant of the house was repeatedly pistol-whipped and a woman was bound with duct tape.

I'm shocked. I mean...how could anyone expect Coleman to hold onto anything that need to be taken from the house? Surely he'd drop it all right at the doorstep.

It's bad, but I just couldn't help but chuckle at this...

What a loser. He was given opportunities to do great things if he made the right choices and now he is a state burden. With hard work and a focus on better in the classroom and on the field, he probably could have been a good back for someone.

Actually, the thread title should be, we never should have recruited him in the first place.

    Another classic Dan McCarney mistake....

In my opinion worse than giving chances to Jason Berryman.

I think it was a pointless shot at Dan, but it was a mistake on his part to recruit him and that was before he got in trouble at ISU. He got in trouble in high school for assulting police officers. He NEVER should have been offered a scholarship.

For the record I REALLY liked Dan. He just offered TONS of HS kids who had problems with the law or academics. He lost out more than not.

But how in the world is this kid worthy of a scholarship?? Something that will always puzzle me. I mean maybe if he was talented it would be worth it.

Agreed. Coleman continues to fumble away opportunities - on and off the field.

Minus the repeated dig at McCarney, this is 100% accurate.

Re: Good thing Coleman left; part 2

By classic mistake, I mean it was a common theme for him.

IMO it is what cost him his job at ISU. Recruiting classes that were wasted because scholarships were wasted on guys who had previous academic/legal/character issues and never panned out at ISU.

I wish he could have been more successful.

Coach McCarney for the most part recruited high character guys, you cant keep away from all bad apples, some appear to be ok until you bite into it.

Well no one needed to bite into Coleman to know he was trouble.

Wasn't there about 3-4 other football players involved in this kidnapping/assault/we want drugs thing that went down? I think I read an article that was posted on here about all the things that football players out there had been busted for when this happened.
