    Longhorn fans miss Chizik

I'm at a conference in Nashville and spoke to some UT alums this week. They indicated their defense has not been the same since Chizik left and that he will do big things in Ames.

Well hopefully chizik can get that defense put in to play for us sometime soon. I love watching the defense when everyone is playing together and they dominate the game. Let's hope that our defense can get to that level, and soon.

That's because they let Akina run the defense. Even when Chizik was there, he was co-coordinator with Akina and their passing defense was horrible even though Akina had the defensive backs and put a couple into position to win the Thorpe award. There is a reason they went out and got Will Muschamp from Auburn. His Auburn defenses were awesome and coached the LSU defense to the 2003 national title. His resume is actually a lot better than Chizik's even though they took similar paths to get the same job at
Texas. You can bet their defense will be better this year than last with Muschamp helping out. If I was going to go out and get a defensive coordinator, he would have been it.

    Re: Longhorn fans miss Chizik

From my vantage point down here, a lot of UT fans I've encountered were bad-mouthing Chizik after he took the ISU job. They called him some pretty rotten things and wished nothing but ill will on the man for taking a job at a "crap school" and said they didn't need his "crap defense" anyway. Mostly they cited the big loss to KSU in '06.

Of course, the people who say such things are generally the vocal minority and have no reflection on the articulated and intelligent portion of a fanbase. I say that because ISU even has plenty of people who would bad-mouth a coach if he or she were to leave on their own.

How bad did they melt down when they lost to an even worse KSU team last year? You cant blame those loses on Chizik.

Umm, the difference is that he pulled the wool completely over our eyes and bolted w/out warning.

    I somewhat agree with you.

IIRC, Chizik didn't give Texas much warning either. Mack Brown and the Texas AD knew about his interviews with ISU, but other than those two, both ends (UT and ISU) kept it as quiet as possible.

The only difference is with Chizik, only the fans were blindsided. With WJ everyone was blindsided.

The fans were blindisded by Gene Chizik taking a job promotion? We have more reason to be ****** at Pri than Longhorn fans do to be ****** at Chizik. And we aren't ****** at Pri.

Badmouthing is badmouthing...the "why" is irrelevant...

    Re: Longhorn fans miss Chizik

My former brother-in-law is a huge UT booster and really gave me grief when Chizik came to ISU - except that he blamed the late 06 UT defensive collapse on Chizik "already having his foot out the door". I took that as a very backhanded compliment and endorsement of coach. In the end, I don't care what the UT fans say or think. I believe Chizik is the real deal and will bring ISU to national prominence.

I'm more worried about what happens when Mack leaves UT. Those same bad-mouthing fans are going to be clamoring for coach then.

ISU fans are the greatest in the world. All they ask for is hope and the belief that we have a chance to win every time we step on the field - Johnny Majors (paraphrased)

Ya gotta have the horses, man - Johnny Orr.
