    Digital Camera

I think there was a thread on this not too long ago but can't find it. I am in the market for a new camera.

My camera's screen took a dive on me. I have a Kodak 8 megapixel 3X optical zoom, 5X digital. It's an OK camera, but am more than willing to change. I am looking for a camera at least 8 megapixel and at least 4X optical zoom. Would like to try to stay at or under $200. Any suggestions?

Why do you need 8 megapixels?

If you plan to take pictures of anything moving, do yourself a favor and get a digital SLR. We have an entry level Nikon we bought about two years ago and absolutely love it.

I guess i don't need 8, but I really liked the quality of the pictures in my current camera. Was able to blow a few up for different gifts, pranks, etc.

Before you give yourself a "prescription" - we should diagnose the "problem" first.

What is the purpose of this camera? What will be the things it's primarily asked to do?

If I did have 2 complaints on my current camera are it's horrible at action photos and the optical zoom is not great.

It would be a bit of general purpose camera. I would want it semi-compact that it can be carried easily. Used both indoor and outdoor. I don't take a lot of pictures of people posing (those type of pictures seem too fake to me). So there would be a lot of action in the photos.

Yeah, if you're wanting actions shots - you're going to need to get a fast camera. Most point-and-shoots, especially those under $200 - are not going to give you the results you want.

    Re: Digital Camera

I have to agree, I have a Pentax SLR probably a middle of the line model and love it. It's hard to take to the bars but for everything else it is great. Especially the action shots, plus with additional lenses you can get as much zoom as you want, I have a 200M lenses that is great for sporting events.
