Have you changed your ways to combat gas prices?

I'm just curious if people are starting to change their daily routines with these climbing prices.

We've done small things like replace air filters, making sure tire pressures are the same, car-pooling when possible, choosing closer restaurants to go out to eat with.

Re: Have you changed your ways to combat gas prices?

The three biggest things I'm doing is using my supercharger as little as possible (that means few hard accelerations - easing into the gas), use my cruise control more often, and coast when possible. Ironically, me moving further away from work has actually helped me out quite a bit as now I live in a town that has only two traffic lights (less chance of sitting at stop lights) and I'm mostly highway miles to work. Another benefit to living outside of Davenport now is I have less motivation to go into the city to go shopping, etc. Usually now when I get home from work I'm now home for the night.

We combine trips. We also moved so only one of us is commuting 20 minutes instead of one commuting 30 and one 40.

Re: Have you changed your ways to combat gas prices?

I looked into the bus to and from Ankeny for work but with the customized schedule they provided me, i'd be leaving for work a half hour earlier than what I do now and would be a whopping 40 minutes later getting back into Ankeny than when I get home now.

Cann't say that I at least didn't try.

Re: Have you changed your ways to combat gas prices?

Since I already live a pretty conservative lifestyle, no. Not a bunch.

I drive an extremely efficient car, I take the train whenever possible, and frankly, I work too much to use much gasoline. 90+ hours a week will do that for you....

We walk to the store/restaurants in Ankeny when possible since we're near all the Delaware shopping.

Re: Have you changed your ways to combat gas prices?

I answered no because I drive a company car (free gas) for one vehicle and my other vehicle (F-150) only gets filled up every 2-3 months because I drive the company car for almost everything.

Re: Have you changed your ways to combat gas prices?

Not really. My wife and I have a four cylinder car for everyday commuting. We both work downtown so we are able to commute together most days. When we can't commute together we have a beater Alero that does ok on gas. But we did this when gas was under $2.

But this weekend I took a road trip across Iowa in the car featured in my avatar. Spent over $200 in gas. But it was hella fun and I don't regret it.

Re: Have you changed your ways to combat gas prices?

My wife and I both work in town, so no commuting is nice. We sold my truck about a month ago, that's been the biggest thing we've done. Other than that, not really, we put so few miles on our cars that gas will have to be a lot higher to really hurt us too bad.

Re: Have you changed your ways to combat gas prices?

My wife and I are moving to where she can walk to work, nothing to do with gas more the free apt. But I will start to drive her Toyota and leave my Blazer in the parking lot. It hit home yesterday when I filled up and it cost me over $80.

Re: Have you changed your ways to combat gas prices?

I voted yes in a lot of ways. My wife and I started carpooling together 3 days a week and my wife telecommutes once a week. I have requested the option of telecommuting once a week myself but the powers that be have not allowed me to do it yet. I figure by doing this I have earned the right to ***** about gas prices!

Re: Have you changed your ways to combat gas prices?

i selected yes because we are moving in a couple weeks across town to where she will be able to walk/bike to work and i will only be a 5 minute drive from my work .... cant say it was all the price of gas but it was really hurting when both of us were driving back and forth every day for work ....
