    Assistant Coach/Recruiter

Is this what it takes to put talent on the floor at Hilton?

    http://www.kansas.com/sports/updates/story/416752.html

KSU assistant Hill made $400,000 last season

    BY JEFFREY MARTIN

    The Wichita Eagle

He might be the nation's highest-paid assistant basketball coach.
If Dalonte Hill isn't, the Kansas State associate head coach certainly is in the discussion.
The Eagle obtained a copy of Hill's contract, which he signed May 12. His base salary is $150,000, but his additional compensation was good for $250,000 this past season, meaning his first-year salary was $400,000.
That total jumps to $420,000 is the remaining four years of the contract.
Hill received a bonus equaling one month's base salary -- $12,500 -- because the Wildcats reached the NCAA Tournament; it's two months for the Sweet 16 and three months for the Final Four. He pocketed an extra $1,500 for K-State finishing in the top third of the Big 12 regular season standings; Hill receives an additional $3,000 if the Wildcats win the Big 12 regular season title and another $3,000 if K-State ever wins the Big 12 Tournament.
Hill's employment is tied to head coach Frank Martin's tenure at K-State. If Hill is fired prior to April 30, 2012 for cause, he receives no money from the university. If he is terminated for any other reason, he must be paid $560,000 if it occurs before April 30, 2009; $420,000 before April 30, 2010; $280,000 before April 30,2011; or $140,000 before April 30, 2012.
If Hill leaves K-State before his contract has expired, he must pay the school $50,000.

They have to launder the money through someone before it Martin gives it to the players.

    Re: Assistant Coach/Recruiter

Is that a typical assistant coach contract?

My god... that is more money than a lot of D1 head coaches isn't it?

    Re: Assistant Coach/Recruiter

I wonder if he was paid that to get Beasley to stay commited. Is he the coach that has a car nickname? Paying him that kind of cash he must be one heck of a coach, like the best asst in the country.

    Re: Assistant Coach/Recruiter

Wow ... I have never heard of an assistant coach getting paid "x" amount of dollars if he is terminated before a certain date. I thought usually they had 1 year contracts that could be renewed after each season ... interesting.

    Re: Assistant Coach/Recruiter

So basically, they just gave him head coach money, but he's still an assistant... just for one player, for one year. Was it worth it?

Check out their recruits - almost all of them have come from DC Assault where he was an AAU coach.

I've been asking myself that about KSU's "remarkable turn-around" in basketball...Was it worth it? Short term, I suppose it was... they did make the tourney and win a game. Given Frank Martin's resume, the long term (post Beasley & Walker) may not turn out so well.

    Re: Assistant Coach/Recruiter

I can't wait for some KSU fan to come and try and explain this one. I think at KU if you are a star player your family get jobs at the university, somebody could list all the people who have benefitted from this one. Don't get me started on USC. Mayo is one thing, how Reggie Bush still has the Heisman is beyond me. Is anything EVER going to be done about that? Does the NCAA only penalize "weaker" schools? Didn't Oklahoma just get another slap on the wrist? Does anybody really believe that those 2 players that got caught were the only ones doing no-show, no-work jobs?
