Will they find life on Mars?

So now that the most recent mars rover has landed in search for alien life, does anyone think they will find anything?

I think chances are good that they find evidence of former or even current life.

I think they're going to find WallE, but perhaps that's just me.

EDIT: Seriously, I don't think we'll really find much evidence until people are actually on the planet.

They'll find a big rock, but that's it.

I think they will - they've found river and lake beds, and they are pretty certain that there are caves and what not. They have also done imaging to show that there are still currently some forms of underground bodies of water mostly likely in existance.

Possibly, but it is more likely that there is life on Jupiter's moon, Europa.

That is why they landed near the north pole this time because of signs of ice.
I wonder how long it will take to get some new mars photos up on the web. I would imagine we will see some in the next couple hours.

    You mean Johnny 5?

Seriously though, if my experiences traveling here on earth are any indication, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the mars rover found hawkeye fans.

I don't remember hearing that they've found trailer parks.

I thought they already found life on Mars via some microscopic organisms. Perhaps I'm mistaken?

Very true. I think if anything, they might possibly find that life previously existed on Mars.

Europa would be more likely. If the center is hot enough, beneath the thick surface ice there could be water and it could be warm enough to support life.

    Who knows though.

I'm pretty sure that was found in the ice in Antarctica. The believed it may have been from Mars (I think).

Titan, IMO is the biggest chance for life. It's colder, but has a lot of known water.

Well, I think he's a little too blonde for life to be there.

Re: Will they find life on Mars?

What bugs me is hundreds of millions of dollars are being spent to figure out we share or used to share the solar system with bacteria on another planet, when we've got people without food or a home on this planet.

Space exploration is cool and all, and I do like it, but I can' stand all of these probes looking for life because they can't stand the thought of being alone in the universe on a planet with 6 billion people on it... plus millions of other species...

[delete]Stupid pointless rant that is funny to me given that I havent' gone to bed yet but probally not funny to people ust waking up [/delete]

I mean atleast spend the money colonizing space, not digging in the dirt for germs. If you want to do that, go play in your backyard - just be sure to call the utility company before you dig...

    Ok I'm goign to bed

EDIT: They're not actually looking for bacteria - they're looking for organic compouds. So not even looking for dead microbes - they're looking for evidence that dead microbes could have existed

ehh whatever, congrats to the team, atleast they managed to land this one (thumbs nose at Britain)
