    Cell phone, internet, or television?

When asked how hard it would be to give up a specific technology, respondents are now most likely to say the cellphone would be most difficult to do without, followed by the Internet, TV, and landline telephone.

Americans love mobile phones more than Internet: study

Personally I don't own a cell phone so obviously I have zero attachment to cell phones. I just got a landline telephone last Deceember (they weren't available in the area where I live until then) after going four years without such, so the whole telephone thing is no big deal to me.

    Television I hardly ever watch.

So in my case, the only real attachment I have is to the internet.

Re: Cell phone, internet, or television?

TV would be the easiest to give up. Most of the television shows I watch are available for free on the network's website. So, I guess in that regard, internet would be the toughest to give up.

Re: Cell phone, internet, or television?

I just checked around my house. No phone jack to be found. I guess landlines were the first to go around here. I could do without TV the easiest, then my phone, then the internet. At least with the internet, I can make fun of people anonymously

EDIT: I tried to drop the TV from my mediacom bill last week, and when I did, they ended up giving me a better a deal to keep all the stuff I have now than if I were to drop it. ($50 a month for internet and cable vs. $65 for internet and basic cable vs. $60 for internet only). I have no idea how I ended up with that deal, but it's nice.

The cellphone would be by far the easiest for me to give up. I can go days, and have even gone weeks without using my phone. That's what I have e-mail for.

TV would be next, internet would be the last for me to give up.

Re: Cell phone, internet, or television?

I really use the cellphone mostly for work... so I could give that up... I have wanted to cut down on TV watching, but I think that would be hard.

I will say TV first, internet close second.

Internet would be toughest, hands down. I wouldn't mind if cell phones didn't exist.

Re: Cell phone, internet, or television?

I'm forced to carry a cellphone, and never recharge the minutes, just because they didn't tell me I had to.

The cell phone is the tool of the devil, to guarantee that micro-managers can control people no matter where they are.

On the other hand, the internet rocks!!!

TV???? What the heck is TV???? I don't even have a functional TV in my house....

Re: Cell phone, internet, or television?

Hmmm I use the internet much much more than I use my cell phone, but I have spent periods of time deprived of both and found that to be a little challenging at first. Since I use internet more than my cell phone, Internet is the one I'd have the hardest time giving up.

I haven't had cable for about 8 months now, and I haven't had a land line since I quit living in the dorms (Not that I ever used it for anything other than ordering pokey sticks anyways), so obviously I can live without those

I vote for cell phone only because I can watch TV on my phone and get internet on it as well.

Re: Cell phone, internet, or television?

Haven't had a cell phone in 2 years, so I say that's the easiest right now.

We lived a couple years without a TV, and it wasn't really that difficult.

Depends what I'm doing, I guess.

The 1st thing I would give up if I had to would be the cell phone. Sure it's handy, but it can also be a glorified leash.

Re: Cell phone, internet, or television?

I'd say if they did this poll over and over again with different samplings of people they would get a different answer everytime.

I would give up my cell phone in an instant and wouldn't miss them if everyone did the same.

TV/Internet would be about even for me, but cell phone is by far and away the easiest to get rid of.

Re: Cell phone, internet, or television?

The cell phone would be easiest for me by far. My cell phone is supplied by my work. You can never escape the office as long as they have this link. Doesn't matter if you are on vacation or whatever you are doing, they have a means to reach you. It does come in handy for personal use, but it seems even that benefits the caller more than me.

I also have a land line at home, but I seldom use it. I don't have long distance service on the land line and haven't for years. You can still do some LD calling throughout Iowa, but I communicate via email or IM.

I honestly believe I could give up all phone service and the only thing I would lose (barring emergencies) is the ability to order pizza.

I would give up TV next, then hang on to the Internet.

Re: Cell phone, internet, or television?

We currently don't have TV in my apartment in Pella for my internship this summer. We are pretty much just going off finding TV shows on the internet if we really want to watch TV.

I could definitely give up the cell phone next, I can go days without needing to use my cell phone, no one ever calls me.

Internet would be the last thing I would consider getting rid of.
