    A little Marcus Paige info

Per a good friend of Marcus's
Marcus is pretty good, but he's really small, 5'5-5'6 ish and a twig, hes got a great jumper and he's quick with great ballhandling skills, but not great court vision he's very selfish, good thing is is that he prefers isu over iowa.
Take it fwiw. Apparently Marcus has been going to the ISU camp for several years

    The next JC Halloway?

"I think that people are responding to someone standing up and saying this is what we want to do and let's not be afraid to go for it,'' Pollard said. "I think Iowa State has a very conservative, modest background. We never pound our chest and say `Let's do it.' It's OK to set a goal. You can't do it if you don't say what you want to do. You should be proud of it.''

That's pathetic if we've offered an eighth grader that's 5'5". Absolutely pathetic.

So has Iowa. He will be ranked just as high as Harrison is eventually, and has a history of height in his family. His mom is the Marion gbb coach.

Don't think Paige has an Iowa offer. Harrison is a top 15 by Scouts.com and now a five star, I'm sure he was taller than that in 8th grade.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that more went into deciding to offer him than knowing his height and grade. I assume the staff knows how he plays and that his development will put him at the D1 level. I agree you are rolling the dice on the height thing. He may grow a lot yet. He is young.

This brings up another question I have. A website mentioned The Generation Next All-Star Camp which is for 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th graders (yeah it's pretty young but that's how it goes these days. I still remember when Sports Illustrated first announced the best 8th grade basketball player in the nation and I thought at that time it was too young to give someone that title). Listed among the names was an 8th grader named Dwight Sistrunk from Des Moines. Has anyone here heard of him?

I haven't seen Lil' Sistrunk this year, but the last couple years when I did see him - he's tough. One of the best.

He is a very, very good player. I wouldn't be suprised if we offered him pretty soon.
The 2010, '11, and '12 classes are really loaded in the state of Iowa..
Harrison Barnes, Chanse Creekmur, Jordan Dykstra, Marcus Heemstra, Zach Mccabe, AJ Derby, Tavian Pomlee, Reggie White, Rasham Suarez, Marcus Paige, and Dwight Sistrunk are all high major recruits. (Except for maybe Heemstra)
Basketball is definitely on the rise in the state of Iowa.

Yup, I had the pleasure of coaching him in '06 for football. Great kid - seriously. Always a smile on his face. I have not watched him play hoops, but hear he's a star in the making.

In football - the kid had skills. Very close to the ground, fast/quick and elusive. He could do very well there but it's my understanding that '06 was his last year in FB - to avoid injury.

He did get a very slight break in his hand that year - right before the season started. So he didn't actually get to play in any live games. Just the league scrimmage and practices up to that point.

It would certainly be awesome to see him in an ISU uniform - however - his dad did play football (safety) for Iowa back in the late 80's.

Little Dwight...man...just hearing that name makes me smile. :)

I guess if we can't recruit high school jrs/srs., we may as well lock them up before they reach puberty.

That would be one hell of a recruit.

Also of note, little Dwight and his family are close with either Mike Taylor and/or a member of his family. They were at a summer league game last year "rooting on" Mike and another player I can't recall at the moment.
