    Indiana Jones

As anyone else seen it? I just saw it and let me say I was extremely disappointed. I thought it was going to be pretty good. It started out average. Had some good scenes in the middle and than really started getting weird and ended poorly IMO. It still got pretty good ratings so maybe I am off here. Thoughts?

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Sounds like you are a victim of your own over-inflated expectations.

For sequels like this, I always go in expecting the worst....that way I'm usually pleasantly surprised.

I liked it. I went in with low expectations, but came away feeling that I was entertained. It's different, I'll give you that, definitely not a storyline I would have expected. But the action was good, the acting was solid, and heck, it's Indiana Jones so that alone makes it good :)

I can definitely see how a lot of people won't like it though.

    Re: Indiana Jones

I went in knowing it could not live up to the memories of the older films...and it didnt come close to doing so. So I have to admit to myself it was a bit what I expected.

I am developing a theory, that the older I get, the harder I am to impress...or I am not impressed by the same things.

Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed the 'Indy' experience, and this one was certainly that. I also have a hard time with Indy being as old as he is. No one wants to see a larger than life figure like Indiana Jones get old, do they?

It's like realizing for the first time that your dad is getting old, and how that hits you.

Still...no way would I have not gone to see this one in the theaters, I am glad I did...and nothing can touch Raiders of the Lost Arc, which there was an homage to in this film.

There was perhaps an all time jump the shark moment in this one, too.

I haven't seen it yet, but I agree with your overall sentiments. It's like you've seen some variation of almost everything before, so it takes something really new and original to impress you. I'm in the same boat. It's still a great experience when you find one, but it's fewer and farther in between.

    Re: Indiana Jones

SPOILER ALERT - I was very disappointed by it. After 18 years I was looking for something more, there were too many scenes I've seen in other movies. The ending didn't fit the rest of the movie(IMHO), and I don't like his successor. Obviously, this movie is a vehicle to relaunch the series with his son. Basically, for a movie of this stature wouldn't you expect to see it being advertised everywhere. IMHO they don't advertise movies that they know aren't very good. Just my opinion though.

    Re: Indiana Jones

I'll go into it the same way I did Die Hard 4 - expecting a good movie but not necessarily the same kind as the previous versions.

As a Die Hard 1, 2 and 3 fan, I thought DH4 was about the best pure action movie there's ever been. I don't have the same expectations for IJ4 but I will certainly allow myself to enjoy it for what it is and not expect it to be the same ole Indy. Afterall, it's Indy plus a lot of mileage and years.

    Re: Indiana Jones

JDM - I saw the matinee this afternoon and I believe I know which moment you're talking about! I think most of the audience was having the same thought when it happened. Have you noticed that Spielberg often includes something like this in his action movies? In particular, I'm thinking of the scene in The Lost World where a teenage girl beats up a velociraptor with some kind of gymnastics move and the scene in The Temple of Doom where the rail cart jumps the gap in the track. Does he look at these preposterous scenes and actually think the audience will enjoy them?

All in all, though, I enjoyed the film. If Spielberg had just removed the scene I believe you're referring to and another one shortly after, it would have been much better. I look forward to discussing it more openly when more people have seen it.

Dont know if I buy that theory at all. I have seen huge Ad campaigns for crap movies. This movie, Xfiles, etc dont need to super advertise because everyone know what they are and have a fan base that will spread the news.

    Re: Indiana Jones

I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark last weekend in anticipation of this latest movie. I liked Temple of Doom and thought Last Crusade was the best of the trilogy. Indiana Jones is one of the best characters I have seen in a movie franchise, in my opinion.

Is Lucas doing the same thing to Indiana Jones that he did to Star Wars??
