WJ-don't let the door hit you...

Sorry, but I'll back GMac on this one. GMac took him when he really had nowhere else to go and he has a little success then bolts. On top of that, WJ has 1 conversation w/ coach, commiserates with teammates for half a season and disappears and won't even accept coach's phone calls. If WJ doesn't want to be at ISU, fine-see ya. If there were some big personality problems with GMac I think we would know because other players would speak out. Mike Taylor was dismissed for conduct, Stinnett, Taggart, Carr etc. all left before even spending 1 practice with GMac. Vette was homesick or whatever, CJ wanted more playing time. Don't even remember why Dunson & Brister left, but I don't believe they had anything bad to say about GMac. I think WJ comes across as a big baby-he probably never had anyone be critical of him before and can't handle it. In the end, we'll replace him and move on and I'll cheer for the players that are committed to ISU and forget the ones who aren't. I for one am not going to worry about this at all. Lets let GMac and JP do that, afterall, that's what they get paid for. Tomorrow, I'll pay over $50 to fill my car with gas, I'll get up and go to work as usuall and life goes on. WJ is just a tiny blip on the radar. If he doesn't want to play his last 2 years here, so what?

    GO CYCLONES!!!

I feel the same, he could at least had the stones to tell the coach himself. not even necessarily in person, just not have your older brother call.

All I'm saying is that there is no need to dive on a sword over this. If he doesn't want to be here, big deal. I don't really care why he left. He's gone, let's move on and replace him with somebody better. I'll support those coaches and players that decide to remain a CYCLONE.

    GO CYCLONES!!!

Re: WJ-don't let the door hit you...

Dodie left because of academics, and I think Brister was the only one who left because of conflicts with McD. I think him leaving was the first time it really ever surfaced that McDermott has been trying to fit the square pegs he picked up last minute into round holes. I never thought a lot of the players he picked up then fit his style of coaching, but I thought WJ would have been the exception.

If this is the last of the defections, I don't think the coming season will be nearly as bad as everyone thinks. Wesley was great, but I feel like there are some others that will play for the first time next season that can start to pick up where WJ left off.

Re: WJ-don't let the door hit you...

I want to start by saying that this is a direct reply to CYCFAN.....
I can honestly tell you people that are posting the responses about Wes being a coward for leaving the team; you have no idea. Greg McDermott is the coward. He treated Wes the worst on the team. There's a major difference between an in-your-face type of coach and a coach that degrades you and makes it personal. And by all accounts (inside info) Greg McDermott is the most two-faced person we've had in our program. The players do not like him and that's a fact. He tells them everything they want to hear in person and bashes "certain" ones behind their back. He was an emotional hire and a bad one at that. I love to read the comments by people who have no idea about what really happens behind the scenes. Ignorance is the best word for it........WOW!!! Wes should have handled it differently, no doubt about it, but he's not a confrontational type of person. He's good kid. A good kid who was treated like s**t!!! Greg McDermott plays his favorites, even when they are not as talented as the other guy and even when they get outplayed in practice by the other guy. That's a high school move not a Big Twelve move. Example would be BRYAN PETERSON!!! Marcus Brister and Diante Garrett are way better players, hands down. You can cut any way you want, but your argument will hold no water. Marcus Brister left because Bryan Peterson was simply handed the job without earning it. That's a fact. Oh, and he saw the writing on the wall, which was that no matter how little Bryan Peterson does on the court he will remain the starter. That's something that takes place in grade school and even high school, not big-time college basketball. Greg McDermott isn't big-time college basketball. I'm sorry. He's not Big Twelve material.
