Re: WJ article in Ames Tribune

He and his brother called McDermott on Wednesday to say the 6-foot-7 forward would not return to Ames this week with the rest of the team.
That's what happens with this stuff...the longer it goes the more the truths get mixed up.

Other reports had the call taking place on Thursday and it not even coming from Wes - but just his brother.

It's quite difficult to know which way is up with this entire thing.

Re: WJ article in Ames Tribune

The quotes from the article lead me to believe that GMac may have a tendency to be a bit heavy handed when it comes to "his way or the highway".

There's a limit to how much you can micro-manage situations before it becomes counter-productive for the folks you're in charge of and they begin to resent you and your management style.

I'm disappointed that things have turned out this way because WJ was a pleasure to watch on the court. I hope he's learned from this experience.

More importantly, as the head coach of ISU men's BBall, I hope that GMac takes a long look in the mirror after this and learns from this situation. If players keep leaving, he'll soon join them.

I think Pollard won't be so trigger happy this time with G. Mac.. This is his first big hire and he will want to give him every opportunity.

That being said, I would hope Pollard has a heart to heart talk with his coach, and tell him there are certain things he needs to get corrected.

I believe WJ is the first player who has had negative things to say about the coach on his way out the door. C. McIntosh, C. Johnson, C. Vette and D. Dunson all had good things to say about ISU and Coach McD. I don't see a pattern yet. Plus, if WJ is claiming there was a miscommunication between himself and the coach, he isn't doing a very good job of communicating it to the press. Now in his defense, I'm guessing he doesn't have a public relations department in his home. But neither does Tony Freeman, and I understood what he was saying.
