In the midst of all this...

...am I the only one still somewhat excited about next year? Sure, losing Wes is a HUGE set back and we will probably drop 4-6 games without him but I'm anxious to see McDermott's system and players in action. I know we're going to be young again but we have a lot of players that have been in the system for a year now and we should see a lot of development from them.

The two guys I was most impressed with that finished the season strong were Garrett and Brackins. With 15-20lbs, maturity and alittle more confidence these two will really shine next season. I think our team will revolve around them for hopefully the next 3 seasons.

Peterson and Huluska will give us solid minutes. You could see these two become more and more agressive towards the end of the season. You see players all the time take back seats when they're underclassmen, and all of a sudden they're seniors who decide this is my team and I have to step up. Hopefully Thompson follows their lead and gives us an inside presence.

What I love about our team is that we can really spread you out. It seems that we not only shoot the 3 but we can shoot it at a very high percentage. JVB, Eik, Brackins, Staiger, Boozer, Huluska, Peterson, maybe Garrett and Buckley can all hit from outside. I see Greg using that to our advantage and allowing Diante, Dominique and even Lucca to break down defenses.

I will say I am a little worried about our front court. Thompson hasn't shown us much yet. We don't know what to expect from JVB. Hamilton will most likely redshirt. Leaving us Clinton Mann, LA Pomlee, and Brackins. I'm not going to say Brackins will be dominate next year, but definately will be much more solid down low. More than any other recruit, I am most excited about Mann. We desperately need someone who can play with some energy. Who LIKES to bang down low and get a little physical. I see him as the same type of player as Grant Stout and Eric Coleman.

I'm just noticing this is getting way too long, but I would love to hear if there is anyone else still excited to see the Clones take the floor next year? Most likely there will be no post season play, but we're getting closer and closer even in the midst of this.

Im still pumped. I will miss Wesley, but I am ready to move on without him. I really dont think our team teatered on Wes. I cant wait to see the others put it on the floor and become a team. Im not sold on 4-6 drops. We might be even with last year in my mind.

I think that's about where we'll be, which is a big disappointment. With Wes I think we had a very good chance to finish in the top half of the conference.

Without him, I think we tread water in relation to where we were last season.

Hopefully we get a surprise or two out of the unprovens. I know there is a ton of hype on some of the guys hitting this floor this season (Lucca, etc) but regardless of hype, I am psyched to see what they can do. I bet they pour their heart into the game.

With all of the turmoil lately, I would bet they want to shift the focus on what THEY can bring and not dwell on what we lost.

I hope the fans can do the same.

I'm not saying we'll be 4-6 games below .500. I'm saying we could have won 18-20 games next year, but with Wes gone I think we will be around 14-16 wins again.

I'm excited too. I think we'll see DG be able to get into the lane at will and with the shooters we've got next year our offense should be able to open it up a bit more.

We (the fans) and the coaching staff need a surprise or two from some of our new players for '08/'09 - otherwise things are going to be looking very grim.

Re: In the midst of all this...

I think we may have a decent year, if we can play team ball and Brackins doesn't hit the wall like this year (I know it is the freshman wall :) ). We had some good games without WJ last year, and I think we could have an ok year. No matter what though, this situation just looks: wrong, fishy, strange, weird...and I don't like it.

Re: In the midst of all this...

I'm just sick and tired of being a "young" team. We've been a young team for too long now. I can see using that excuse for a season or two, but when it gets thrown around for 4 or 5 years in a row, something's not right. I know that's stating the obvious, but this program doesn't seem to be headed in the direction we thought it would be when McD was hired. So, to answer your question, I'm not excited about the future of Cyclone basketball.

He showed a lot of potential, and he was getting more under control at the end of the year. If he can control his game in the Big XII, he could be VERY dangerous. And if Brackins keeps a nice inside-out game going, we could have some really nice wins.

He really got it going towards the end of the season. Combine that penetrating ability with some good(possibly great - albeit unproven) spot up shooters and we could be scoring significantly more points.

I'm still excited for cyclone basketball. He was hurt all last year and either couldn't play or couldn't run and jump. I think we'll still be good.

Re: In the midst of all this...

We will be a better team next year than we were last year. Wes was the worst player on the court for much of the season. I was looking forward to a healthy wes, but a improved brackins, garrett, ect. will out weigh the loss of Jiri and Clark.
