Ways to protect your eyes/Computer Monitor

My company is rolling out a paperless project here in about a week, and I'm looking for ways to help protect my eyes. We have pretty decent LCD monitors so that is nice, but the prospect of working just off of monitors over an 8 hour period I think will take it's toll regardless.

Does anybody have any suggestions for how to help with this? Is it nothing to worry about? Are those little screens you hang in front of your monitor really worth anything? Is there something better than those screens?

    Thanks fellas (and ladies).

Adjust the brightness on your monitor down a little bit, but not enough that you have to strain your eyes to read it.

On web sites, it's much easier on the eyes (and saves energy from your monitor too) to read off a dark background with lighter text rather than the other way around. If you can change some settings around, that's better for your eyes.

I'm on a computer pretty much all day and haven't run into problems, but those things do help.

have you ever got caught outside In a strong rainfall? Yes or NO. If it"s yes, then you might half felt the pane of hard(tought) rain on you head. If it hurt"s then it"s tough. Yes or no. Okay I'm right and you know it.

So alothough you attempt"ed to say you didn"t understnad, now you do. Fair enough?

LCD's are really nice for this. Also try and talk them out of the use of cheap flourescent lighthing, that is the worst thing for you.

I would LOVE a paperless office, ours is just full of paper, and we are a technology company.

Close your eyes every once in awhile. You also should stare at something far away for a couple minutes. That helps your eyes out.

Those privacy monitors help a little bit, but are expensive and kind look wierd. Hardly anyone can see what your doing though.

Re: Ways to protect your eyes/Computer Monitor

First, don't look at a monitor (or pretty much anything else) for eight straight hours. Look at something that's a different color or different visual texture, and be sure to look at something or just gaze without really seeing off in the distance. In other words, change up what your eyes are looking at to switch between muscles and concentration.

Second, don't focus on or agonize over the fact that you won't be working on paper. Chances are you'll need to look at something on paper during your project time. Heck, pull out a phone book and look up something if you just want paper.

Third, remember to close your eyes every once in a while and enjoy the darkness.

Trust me, when they say paperless, they mean it. They are attempting to take away our fax machines and printers.

During the first part of this year, I did some work and we're now internally e-mailing our end of the day reports instead of printing them.

Although those reports aren't our biggest usage of paper, it will save a bunch.

On a side note, I've got a printer that I took out of service about a year and a half ago - it had around 2 million pages on it in the 9 years it was in service.
