    Recruiting question: Juco's

Has anyone heard the rumor that we have offered upwards of 25+ JC players for football next year. I find this hard to believe. Someone called into KXNO yesterday and said we are throwing out JC offers everywhere.

I think we are in desperate need of 4-5 impact O-linemen. Where do we possibly have the need for that many more JC players? What does this say about the state of our program right now. Are the coaches too busy worrying about this team that they have not time to recruit?

I have hard time believing that. Those rumors are like fishing stories, they get bigger and bigger.

However Juco players aren't the end of the world. K-State made a pretty good living on Juco players. Senneca Wallace was one of out better ones.....

If that's anywhere near true, it appears that Mac is looking for a "quick fix" to his current problems. (Also seems like an act of desperation)

I do not think ISU has offered 20 JUCO's yet, but they are 'in on' about that many. I think it is an act of desperation. I think that is a scary proposition.

Are there any football recruits close to commiting or anything does anybody know? I know this may be a really dumb question but i'll ask it anyway. Are there any "studs" ISU might get this year?

    Re: Recruiting question: Juco's

Maybe they all went out to offensive linemen, so Meyer doesn't get killed next year. Should be able to find 4 or 5 decent ones out of 25, right? JK. I think we lack depth just about everywhere, and our staff is looking for a quick fix. It does seem like a really high number of scholarships to offer to JUCO's though.

Lack depth? I'd say beat up is more like it.

I liked the way Scales looked last week before he got hurt. With him, and the rest of our skilled players on O coming back next year, I hope we have 100 offers out to O-Linemen. Hopefully we could find a couple guys that could help us out.

    Re: Recruiting question: Juco's

K-State made a living on JUCO's, but when they went away from heavy JUCO classes, they fell kinda hard. Large JUCO classes are a double-edged sword.

Lets hope some O-Linemen step up next year (the rest of this year too?) so Meyer doesnt get demolished.

    Re: Recruiting question: Juco's

Juco route is only route Clones have for O-Line, recuriting for these positions has been dismal at best previously. Remember in August we all were excited about O-Line being a Veteran and senior line! Now we can't wait for them to Graduate. Doesn't matter who is Head coach next year, JC players have to fill the O-Line next year, your roster is empty now. As for protection for Meyer next year, who can speculate he will be even the starter next year? You have Bates coming in and Austin A as Red shirt freshman ready for prime time! Meyer may be a back up who knows, but who ever it is the current 2-3 deep O-Line aren't any better than what we have as starters. JUCO is obvious route whatever happens.

We need Running backs. We need D-backs. We need a few Defensive lineman. Other than that I would say we are money.

    Re: Recruiting question: Juco's

We are recruiting JUCO's more aggressively this year. I don't know the count of offers, but 20+ wouldn't surprise me. Doesn't mean we intend to bring in that many. If the staff gets the commitments it wants 7-12 JUCO's is not out of the question this year. JUCO offers positions include include all defensive positions, Oline, RB. I don't think it is desparation per se, but it is a recognition that assuming DMac is back next year that we are very thin and need a quick fix to get back to success. Risky yes. Necessary also yes.

DMacs record with JUCO's isn't really that bad. For every program they are a mixed bag. Some turn out some don't. Dobbins, L. Hicks, two key parts of last years D were JUCO. Senena was JUCO. our long snapper is JUCO, Tuba, is JUCO, we have had a couple olinemen who have been decent. However, probably 1/2 or more don't pan out and that is the rub.

I will be surprised and disappointed if DMac doesn't bring in several JUCO olinemen this year. I will put the over/under on JUCO's enrolling by next fall at 9.

That will never happen as long as Mac is on board. However, if a new staff comes in, EVERYONE might be fighting for playing time. But, I'd be surprised if Arnaud or Bates are even close to being ready to unseat Meyer.

These are not fish stories. If you follow both premium boards all the prospects we are looking at now are JUCO's. There are hardly any high schoolers looking at us anymore. The actual number quoted on the premium board was that we had offers out to 29 or 30 JUCO's.

I can verify that we are are looking at at least that many JUCO's based on all the JUCO names that have surfaced.

Remember we only have 7 commits so far. Pretty horrific if you ask me.
