Why Harbaugh wants to come to Ames

Why would Harbaugh want to leave SD for Ames IA? The top job in collage football (from a Mich alum) is the HC at Mich. Lloyd Carr as a few years left. For the sake of this lets says 5. If you want to be the next HC there how do you get in that position? Can't make the jump from D3 to Mich. Could make the jump to a big12 school that needs a little help. Come to a program that has had a little success and make a splash...Mich is an easy move after that. Sounds alittle like Bill Self.

Why would ISU want a coach that most likely want to leave in a few years? Harbaugh is a big name and would bring somegood media attn. our way. JP is trying to build us a great new stadium and new good press should help that alot. If Harbaugh came in and gave us 5 years, a new field, and a couple of 10 win (or maybe even 11) seasons, I would take that and thank him for his help. How much easier would it be to hire next time if it all worked out like this!

PS. If he went to Mich we could still cheer for him to keep beating the Hawks.

If we can get anything established... ANYTHING (good, I mean)... then everything else will be much easier. Getting some decent winning seasons together means better national attention, better recruits, and more money. A greater budget means we can afford the upgrades. A greater budget means we can offer people (coaches, etc.) more to come here. Thus, we then have the facilities, the better record and national attention, etc. etc. etc. It's all good things from there, and we won't have to worry about this whole deal on whether or not a good coach would want to come here.

    Some things...

if Lloyd Carr can do what he's doing now, that job is his as long as he wants it
    SD is I-AA, IIRC
    A new stadium? Since when?
If he won 10-11 games here, the world would already have collapsed in on itself, making the Michigan job irrelevant

If a coach could seriously come in here next year, and get this program to multiple 10 win seasons in five years... well I might have been living a lie my whole life. That person would surely be the messiah, and I would wasted a bunch of time believing in Jesus.

I think Carr will retire so time soon9 5-8 years)... Not a new stadium but the addition on our current, making it seem new(give me that. I know I'm streaching with all of it) and would 10 be that far off we have went 9-3 before.

Is this talk about Harbaugh serious? If so...wouldn't that be something.

did he really say 10 or 11 win seasons? i think maybe some need a reality check here. we get 8 or 9 and we should be happy. heck consistently winning 7 hasn't been done yet so shouldn't we start there?

Re: Why Harbaugh wants to come to Ames

From what I've gathered talking to some people who know the program, it sounds like the Harbaugh talk is very serious. It sounds like he has been nothing but solid at San Diego, and his midwest connections would make this job even more desirable.

Re: Why Harbaugh wants to come to Ames

The head coaching position at Michigan is always about two or three losses in a season, or one loss to Ohio St. away from being open. Harbaugh would be a great coaching hire, but my bet he waits for Michigan to open up.

Re: Why Harbaugh wants to come to Ames

Funny part about all this is that after last season Carr was in a very similar situation as Mac is now. He was basically given the old "cut some staff and energize the program" talk. He made some strategic changes and now bamm look where they are at now.

I wouldn't say that it is impossible, but USD straight to Michigan is one hell of a big step. My guess is that there will be a stop somewhere in the middle, why not us?

Who said he is looking to make the jump to a D-1 college. What if he wants to stay in Cali and is just having fun coaching a little named college, and likes being outside the media attention that D-1's get. The man has made his money in the pros, I can guarentee you he is not coaching for the money!

Why is 10 wins so impposible to some of you, when we were 3 overtimes from 10 wins last year?

If JP can somehow pull of getting Harbaugh, I may not sleep until after the first game next fall. Donations and season ticket sales would without a doubt go through the roof!!

Well, we're three plays from being 0-8 this year, so what's stopping us from being a perrenial ZERO win team? Losers ask what if, winners go home and **** the prom queen. Or something like that. Thank you Sean Connery.
