    Home Bar

I thought I would check with this crowd, seems a good fit, if anyone had build a home bar. I am looking for some design plans or ideas. Any info for a new poster would be great. Thanks.

Does that count as 2 posts out of 3? Just kidding.......I've seen a lot of cool bars, but haven't built one myself.

    Re: Home Bar

thunderdave, that is awesome...I am very jealous and hating the fact that I am a renter right now. I gotta ask those who have bars they built/installed in their houses: what did the women in your life think of it?

My wife was all for it.
She did the shopping for the bar stools.

Moral of this story, if they can shop they are happy.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

    Re: Home Bar

Here are some photos of a bar I built at our previous home. I just stick built the famework using 1 x 4s ripped, glue, and screwed to form angled members. Then I put a surface on it using 3/4" partical board and concrete backer board and finally tiled on top of the concrete board. The tile was 79 cents a square and I only had to cut two pieces in half by using the small 3" tiles around the perimeter. The "walls" are just panels I built, stained, and poly'd prior that I attached to the framework like a facade. As you can see, I also had a sink area on a different level which made it a little more complicated. The only thing I wish I had done different is had more floor tiling so that the stools weren't on carpet. The tiling was only behind the bar but I should have done a large area of tile.

Also, I have lots more pictures that I took for my own purposes of documenting the design and step by step assembly. I like to do that so when I build the next revision, I can use what I liked and modify what I didn't like.

I have access to a laser engraver.

There's a new bottle of crown at the very top.

    Re: Home Bar

Here is the little bar I built when I was finishing our basement. We had a little inset that was the perfect spot. I didn't stain it, I just used a cheaper wood and did a red base coat (same color as the wall) and went over it with a dry brush technique in black to get the dark wood look that matches the rest of our furniture down there...

I think next time I'd do something more like this. What I found with the big bar with seats is we rarely sat at it. We just used it as a place to make a drink and hide the fridge. Then, we would sit in front of the TV or out on our deck or at the kitchen table.
