Maymon high on Baylor and Iowa State

arquette is making a lot of noise right now, and we really like Iowa State and Baylor. Baylor and Iowa State might be the top priorities because the coaches there have said they will run their whole team through Jeronne. The coaches at Baylor said they can make him the Kevin Durant of Baylor. The coaches at Iowa State have said Jeronne will be their ‘go-to’ player and will form a great one-two combination with Diante Garrett.”
Another great story from Wisconsin Sports Network / Wisconsin High School Sports
Here's another one from hoops report, which seems to suggest if he gets a Kentucky offer, he'll go there. Hopefully the coaches can pull an upset and land him.
umber of players have boosted their stock tremendously with their play this spring, but none have been more impressive than Madison, WI, junior Jeronne Maymon.
The first time we saw Maymon play was in late March at the Milwaukee Madness Showcase and we were blown away by what we saw.
Here was a player that was strong enough to bang inside, yet skilled enough to play either guard spot; an effortless scorer that was an equally dominant defender; a kid that could handle, shoot, slash, finish, rebound and block shots--- all while talking on his cell phone.
Okay, maybe that’s a stretch, but there was no-doubt that the player that we were watching was the total package... even if we'd never heard of him (how a talent like this slips through the cracks, is beyond us. I mean, just this past season, he was named Wisconsin’s Player of the Year… as a junior, for crying out loud!).
We spoke with the 6-foot-6, 235-pound athlete after the game and he told us that although he had a number of mid-major scholarship offers and had received some high-major attention, he had yet to receive a single high-major offer.
    Not one.
    We smiled and thought,
“Just wait, young man… your going to have plenty.”
Fast-forward five weeks and Jeronne Maymon is now one of the hottest names in the recruiting world.
Since that weekend in Milwaukee, Maymmon has put up monster numbers at three straight national events-- the Real Deal on the Hill, the King James Classic, and the Bill Hensley Memorial Classic-- and when you have a good showing at tournaments like those, scholarship-offers tend to follow.
Just in the last couple of weeks, Southern Cal, Marquette and Iowa State have all offered and we are hearing that Tennessee is close to pulling the trigger, as well. We expect him to have dozens of high-major offers by the time camps roll-around.
But, Maymon is in no hurry.
In fact, the school that he looks forward to receiving an offer from the most-- the University of Kentucky-- hasn’t made a move, yet.
But, if they do decide to offer (and as good as he’s been playing, it’s going to be hard for them not to), don’t be surprised to see the Wildcats jump to the top of his list.
It just so happens that the Maymon’s consider Kentucky assistant-coach, Tracy Webster (who recruited Maymon while an assistant at Illinois), a family friend. And having a family friend on the staff to look out for Jeronne, could be a huge selling point for the Cats if they ever do decide to offer.
For now though, Maymon is just looking forward to his summer and playing AAU ball with Antoine Walker’s Illinois Bobcats. The team travels to Chicago this weekend for the GBOA North tournament where they have hooked The Family (Detroit) in their very first game.
If anyone is in the Chicago area this weekend and wants to check out some top-notch hoops action, the GBOA North tournament (at the University of Illinois-Chicago) is the place to be and it just so happened that the last time the Bobcats played The Family, Maymon scored almost 40 points!......The kid’s a phenom.
A great website for the articles is recruitingplanet, in the wisconsin basketball recruiting section here.

Hopefully we can land this kid (or any other recruit) early so that we can focus solely on Harrison Barnes for '10.

Another tidbit of good news...Rodney Williams won't sign until the spring period most likely, giving us a chance at him if somebody leaves, since Minnesota isn't going after him quite as hard, and reportedly wants to fill their schollies in the fall period.

McDermott and his staff are studs. Seriously. They find great talent early. Now they just need to land a couple of those.

Re: Maymon high on Baylor and Iowa State

Just checked out Kentucky, and I'm trying to figure out how many schollies they have open.

In 2006 they brought in 7 players.
    2007 they brought in 4.
    2008 they brought in 4.
    Already have 1 in 2009
    And have 3 in 2010.

Hopefully, they will be out soon.

That would be the key. We've had plenty of interest from some great talent, just having trouble closing with most of them. Getting this kid and Barnes would go a long ways toward turning that corner - at least in the recruiting arena.

Re: Maymon high on Baylor and Iowa State

we need to compete next year and maybe get into post season play to get a whiff at any high profile kids. Next year is key - do good enough and the Cyclones are looking like pure gold.....do poorly (or repeat this year) and that cardinal red is going to look more like a bloody mess.

They've already filled all three '10 schollies, with KC Ross Miller, Dakota Euton, and Dominique Ferguson. They're all top 15 type talents

Re: Maymon high on Baylor and Iowa State

Maymon is top priority. I seriously believe that Marquette is our greatest competition not Baylor. Williams and everyone else will most likely take a back seat to Maymon for now.

I have a REALLY good feeling about Maymon. This guys kinda reminds me of Fizer. A little undersized but a beast.

I want him but don't like the promises that were highlighted in the quote. I do like our chances from what I've gleened from various quotes.

One of the Wisconsin posters called him a one man wrecking crew and now I see what they meant... wow.

Don't get me wrong...he looks great. But did you see the opposing defense in those highlights?? If you answered "no", you are correct, there was none.
