    Co-ed college dorm rooms

    Will it happen at ISU?

At least two dozen schools, including Brown University, the University of Pennsylvania, Oberlin College, Clark University and the California Institute of Technology, allow some or all students to share a room with anyone they choose including someone of the opposite sex. This spring, as students sign up for next year's room, more schools are following suit, including Stanford University.

I have no problem with that if the students are CHOOSING a roommate that they already know. However, I do have an issue with a random guy/girl combination. I have a few friends who are girls that I could live with without many problems, and I'm sure there are random girls I wouldn't have problems with, but I think random assignments could be an issue.

Yeah. I can't see how this is a great idea. Same sex dorms are working just fine at ISU. This could cause so many problems, it's not even funny.

I don't think it is that big of a deal... I am guessing the majority of the same sex roomates will have strictly platonic relationships...

Yeah, I am sure the college coeds will abstain from sex as long as they are not allowed to share the same dorm rooms.

Who said that? So the university should become an enabler? That's like saying there won't be more potheads if marijuana was sold in vending machines.

Data should be done to see how many of these guy/girl combos move off campus to live. If they would be willing to stay on campus instead, then I could see the Department of Residence being for the change.

How flexible will the Res. head be when some boyfriend/girlfriend combo breaks up mid semester? I don't mind the idea but I doubt I'd use it myself. Think it would be more stressful and possibly akward.

I think this is the correct answer. The problem isn't sex; the problem is, is that the University will have to jump through hoops everytime a boy/girlfriend couple has a "spat."

And, frankly, this will contribute to violence and sexual assault on campus, guaranteed.
