How about we get cars with a launcher and crank?

    Re: Compressed Air Powered Cars

I listened to one guy talk about this concept a couple weeks ago. Of course he was bias because he works for the company, but he had some interesting points. He said that these cars would be available in the U.S. in 2010 for under $20,000. Maybe, just maybe, we can find an effective alternative.

    Re: Compressed Air Powered Cars

I guess this means gas stations will no longer offer "free air".

Where does the energy come from to compress the air anyways, magic?

Don't look at the man behind the curtain!!!

Same deal with electric cars... just because you don't see the gas you put in your car doesn't mean that you aren't using it - very likely you're charging your car with electricity made from coal or oil.

And transmitting electricity is VERY ineffcient... something like 50% of power generated is lost to resistance in transmission from the plant to your house...

You have to look at the entire chain

Correct. What they may be considering (but not mentioning) is that we have a far greater supply of coal than we do oil, therefore the trade-offs for higher electricity production will hold us over until we find a true alternative.

I thought electricity was free, it comes from the holes in your wall.

This is true. That shot was aimed more at the Global Warming Junkies rather than the national security through oil independance type people...

And yes more electricity is being generated through renewable sources but thats still relatively small compared to the over all production of power.

Now if you go and build a wind turbine in your backyard and use THAT to charge your electric car, or some solar pannels on your roof... then good for you. Until then be aware of the fact that you aren't really ditching fossil fuels, just changing which one you're using/how you're using it

This sounds cooler IMO. 100 miles and only uses 4 oz of water....
