That's awesome! I am so pumped about the fact that more gyms will be available to play some ball at. Does anyone know when the project is supposed to be finished?

This makes me feel old. I was there when the rec first opened, and we sucked in football.

If only they would have done this 5-10 years earlier.

I still think air conditioning in the Lied is a joke. I'm going to get a good workout in, if it's hot, all the better. It's not like they're charging for water to rehydrate yourself.

That is, until people start passing out in the summer months, some even during the early fall and late spring semesters. You can get a good workout inside an air conditioned building.

There were times last summer when I'd go to the rec to see a friend who was working there and get a thin layer of sweat just standing on the 3rd floor. Not everyone who works out there is a young, in-shape college student. I'd be willing to bet that during the summer the majority of the users are older faculty, staff, alumni, etc., who are trying to stay healthy and working out in 90+ degrees isn't good for them. Take a look at the thermometer on the desk in the 3rd floor sometime in the afternoon from about late June through late August. Very few times will it be below 85-90. Then add in humidity.

I would agree that air conditioning is a good idea given how hot it gets in there. During the summer months I would have a sweat going by the time I got to the top floor, while that is fine for most college students, I'm sure the older crowd would appreciate having air conditioning.

I think I can top that.

I was at ISU when your only options were Beyer, State, and P.E.B. (Forker) AND Jim Criner was our football coach...

P.E.B. was a great place to get in on a noon pick-up game with the prof's. Some of those guys could ball.

Lied is probably the best place for a pick-up game because there are so many courts and groups that go there. However, I've joined games at State and Beyer (it's just that there are three courts at each of those compared to 20 at Lied).

Lied is the best place to work out, again because of it's size, but there are other options. You can use Beyer or State on the west side of campus, and there are also smaller options in Forker, Union Drive Community Center, and even Friley Hall. But again, Lied has the most equipment and the greatest variety.

    TRUE AND VALIANT

You can play bball at state gym and theres a track above the bball courts in there. There are also courts in beyer hall along with a weight room, but you have to pay for the weight room there (not sure how much). There is also a wieght room in the basement of friley hall you can use for 20 bucks or so and get a free t-shirt. lied or state are your best bets for pick up games I would say.

In my opinion, the Lied is by far the best simply because of the number of courts available. Also, it's much easier to find a game for your skill level because of how many games are going on. If you're really cool and think you can ball with Cam Lee and Diante you can play against them out of season or if you're more of a crappy player (like me ) you can play against kids that really suck to make yourself feel better.

I love it when student fees go up.
