one thing that has always bug me about Mac

the conservative play, keep the game close game plan is just a killer for the team. It seems like ISU is in a dog fight, no matter who they are playing. The starters never get out of the game unless they get hurt. Then, the backup doesn't have any experiance and the starters get beat up! Gee, how did that happen? I also wonder if some of the high turn over of players is due to guys wanting to go somewhere that they will get to play. I really liked what Hawkins did at Boise State. The QB was a usually the same guy, but the other skill positions were filled by a bunch of players. Guys were running in and out all the time, and everyone was ready to go. He did a lot of subbing on defense too.

Maybe all the backups at ISU are not capable of playing, even for a couple plays. Then again, this is surely the fans fault.

Actually this year I wish we could keep the game close. It's better than being blown out all the time. I understand what you mean though.

Re: one thing that has always bug me about Mac

I think it might have something to do with going back to the years before Mac started getting winning seasons. Clearly ISU was overmatched on the field against most teams then, and still is against the usual powers. Mac coached to shorten the game by taking time off the clock, try to limit opportunities for the opponents to score, win the turnover battle, and take advantage of these extra opportunities. This strategy was necessary just to compete.

Now we are still trying the same thing, except the running game isn't as dependable and there are too many mistakes and turnovers. A combination of poor execution and a lack of evolution in the gameplan. Sometimes it's better to adjust to the talent you have instead of continuing to hope your players execute your plan.
