    Babysitters?

Anyone babysit or have kids that babysit? Know of any relatives that babysit? We are located in Clive west of the interstate near 156th. If anyone has a sitter they can recommend, PM me and I can get you our contact info. We'd prefer if the sitter have a car or their own transportation but that wouldn't be a requirement. We have 1 child (2yo) to watch and she typically goes to bed about 8 pm.

    Re: Babysitters?

Does your kid go to daycare? We have found ALL of our babysitters at the daycare we use. They are usually late high school/early college aged, have cars, like kids or they wouldn't be working in daycare, are used to taking care of several kids everyday so 2 kids is no biggee, and they have CPR training to boot.

    Been great for us.

    Re: Babysitters?

We lost our babysitter last year when she went to college. She went to UI no less. It kinda sucks not having a reliable person to call on so you can just get away for an hour and go out to dinner together.

    Re: Babysitters?

I would keep an eye out for kids that live on your street that look to be 14 and up.

EDIT: Just realized that sounds kind of weird all by itself....

    Re: Babysitters?

Thankfully my parents live in town so we just stick them with the kid when we need to get out.

I've done just that. I've met most of my neighbors. They either are our age and have kids our kids age or they are retired empty nesters. Now that is just on our street. I'm sure if I went door knocking the whole sub-division, there might be someone but I really didn't feel comfortable doing that. Nor did I want to post this thread but my wife and I are out of ideas on how to find a sitter and we are about going crazy not being able to go out at night occasionally.

    Re: Babysitters?

Do you know anyone who coaches a youth league sport? We had a guy at church that we knew and had his 15 y/o daughter babysit, but he also coaches youth soccer and had plenty of recommendations for us when his daughter couldn't work.

We pay VERY well IMO which ensures we will always be able to get a sitter when we need one. On average we usually only get one once a month.

I would say we average in the range of $7-$8 an hour. That being said, our sitters are 17+ years old with their own transportation and are essentially professional childcare givers.

    Re: Babysitters?

What's wrong with TV? That's the best babysitter of all. Get one of those automatic pet feeders with some goldfish crackers in it, and you're set for a night on the town.
