Exclamation What does ISU Football need?

After the loss to K-State, I can't see us winning more than one of the games we have left if any. We need a change!

    We need a coach that:
    - is already a SUCCESSFUL HEAD COACH!
    - has been SUCCESSFUL AT EVERY LEVEL OF PLAY!
    - can RECRUIT!
    - is somebody PEOPLE ALREADY KNOW!
    - can GENERATE MONEY! NOW MORE THAN EVER!
    - can DEVELOP YOUNG TALENT!
    - can OUTCOACH SOMEONE ELSE!
    - wasn't a COACH AT IOWA!
    - can energize our FANBASE TO ANOTHER LEVEL!
    - didn't play O-LINE or D-LINE! I want a coach that played a SKILL POSITION! O-LINE/D-LINE Players should be O-LINE/D-LINE Coaches!

So who should we go after to replace DM? I'm not the AD, but I would start taking a hard look at Jim Harbaugh! Imagine what he could do with 85 scholarships and a few million dollars. How many chances do people get to coach in a BCS conference when they are in their prime?

Point was Harbaugh is good, and he is only going to get better. I believe he possesses these qualities. Thanks for the sarcasm. Check out the link and what he has accomplished in only 3 years.

    Mark Farley embodies the above.

Keep in mind most of Harbaughs players were more than likely recruited from the previous coach.

Has he proven he can recruit??

I would have a tough time with Farley as the head coach. Not sure if he fits the bill.

Re: What does ISU Football need?

I don't know about all of the qualities, but I would like an energetic coach that could recruit and isn't afraid to run aggressive offensive and defensive schemes. That's about all I ask for after watching this pathetic season.

Re: What does ISU Football need?

I dont know about all those qualities but I would hire Gene Chizik (frm Texas U) because he has to know a ton of high school coaches in Texas and he could get us better recruits than we have been getting from the state of Texas.

Jim Walden quote..."Heck if you got every good high school football player in the state of Iowa, it wouldnt number four or five and thats just not enough to support a division one football program!"

Re: What does ISU Football need?

"Frontier League" Football or Division 1-AA non-scholarship football is a step above coaching high school football. There is a whole different level to Big XII coaching and I'm not about to get excited about bringing in a complete gamble like that. I suppose you might want to look at Valley's head coach also? I refuse to talk about decisions until JP makes them at the end of the year and I would hope he has enough sense to make a smarter decision than gambling on a coach with the resume that Harbaugh does.

The only names that come to mind to meet your criteria are:
    1. Vince Lombardi
    2. Tony Dunge
    3. Bill Parcells
None of them are available. However, Denny Green will soon be available to coach.

Re: What does ISU Football need?

I know there's a lot of criticizm of those who coached at iowa, but the hayden fry tree has done pretty well for itself - stoops at oklahoma, k-state, alvarez at wisconsin, (gag) ferentz at iowa, and (gag) for awhile (double gag), mac here.

Re: What does ISU Football need?

It's going to be a tough sell for JP... Unless there's a coach in a lesser D-1 conference who's willing to come to Ames, it will be very difficult to attract the type of coach you desire. Plus, like many have already said, ISU would probably just be a stepping stone for an up-and-comer...
