    1700 AM

Ever since I discovered 1700AM I hardly ever listen to Larry "the Drake Man" Kotlar or Marty & Miller anymore. I will probably come back to M&M during football season, but right now it is completely worthless.

But I still like to listen to the John Miller show.

I wonder if KXNO's ratings are going to take a serious hit here soon.

    Re: 1700 AM

Do they have any local programming on 1700AM yet? Until that happens I doubt KXNO has to worry. Now, if they get some good local talent over at the Champ it could be trouble.

Personally, I hope 1700 stays with ESPN national. I enjoy the local programming on KXNO for the most part, but when I want a national perspective, I switch over to 1700. I prefer ESPN to FOX for national broadcasts. I also don't think there is enough going on locally to support competing local programs. If they tried, I think the overall quality would suffer. Even in Seattle they only had 2 sports stations, one was local/ESPN in the evenings, and the other was FOX all day.

    Re: 1700 AM

I still listen to KXNO unless there is an I-Cubs game, or Miller is talking all Hawk or Wrastlin... The good thing about the ESPN radio is you can listen to little bits and not worry that you really missed anything. It's alot like ESPN the mag, alot of quick hits...

    Re: 1700 AM

They need local coverage. As long as Jon is on Iowa fans will listen to him on KXNO. You would have to get big hitters to knock the other 2 shows off as well. I bet it is not easy to get good sports talk show hosts to come to this market.

    Re: 1700 AM

I enjoy PTI when driving home (when its on) and Mike & Mike in the morning. I still listen to the other M&M in the afternoon.

Don't know if anyone was listening today but they were doing play by play on the poll vault comp for drake relays. Miller stated he would have enter if it wasn't for his diarrhea. Marty's silent laughter and wheezing filled the air for the next 5 minutes

    my ranking is...

Marty and Miller (the polevault bit had me rolling over in my car)
Rome (give it two weeks, you will freaking love it)
Jon Miller (too much Hawk crap)
Mike and Mike (solid national show, I find it very funny)
Cotlar and Co (only listened before because it was our only option)

    Re: 1700 AM

I kinda wish they had that third hour of Dan Patrick, I forgot how good he is... Sucks that they took away my streaming at work (stupid bandwidth) now I have to try and get it on a little radio and it doesn't always come in that well...

Agreed Dan Patrick is great... I just can never listen to it.

On another note, does anyone read his weekly feature in Sports Illustrated? It is usually the best part of the magazine.

I haven't read any of his stories in SI. Now that Reilly is gone I rarely pick up a copy, is Dan a good writer? Love him on the radio.

I have tired to listen to Rome over and over and cannot do it. The guy just gets on my nerves. Listen to the others depending on the topic and who they have on and always try my hardest to listen when Clones are talked about. DP is usually good.

That polevault piece was hiliarious...possibly the funniest thing I have ever heard on the radio

    Re: 1700 AM

ESPN all day for me, only broken up by Marty & Miller. I still wished Keno going to Providence was a 2 for 1 with Cotlar somehow packaged in.
