They are esstential if you live where I live with no local warning sirens. If I lived in town I probably wouldn't have one.

I also have a scanner that I use when there are actual tornado warnings in my area. A couple years ago Woodward got nailed with one. I live about 3-4 miles from there and I was able to get real time updates from the sherriff's dept spotters about where exactly the tornado was. Being that it was so close and severe, it was very nice to have that kind of information.

Some people are just complainers... I agree with Wx... People, get over it... if you have cable/sat there are about 100 channels that don't talk weather, change the channel.

    Re: Tired of Storm Warnings

I find that the weather warnings aren't nearly as annoying as waking up this morning to find water in my basement over 2 feet deep. We had over 4 inches of rain last night.....grrrr!!!!

Get over it, those storm warnings may save someone's life.

What? Where is it sprinkling? Should I board up the windows? Or just live in the basement?

Why won't my TV tell me?????

When did you live in Jefferson? I have family that's lived there since... well, probably the 1800's.

My Moms house was flooded in Cedar Falls last week - $10 flood damage from a storm last week with a failed sump pump resulted in $10k in damage. Lucky they cut her an insurance check.

Soooo, I am changing the dang thing to only warn me about my area and as narrowed down as possible so I can get some sleep on a stormy night unless it is specifically heading my way.....

That's the way it supposed to be setup. Why get awakened in the middle of the night for a storm a county or two away when it might fizzle before it gets to you.

Get a nice one that you can program the county and the hazard. The KCCI/HyVee radios don't do that. You can program the county but not the watch or warning type. This really minimizes false alarms. If you live on the top of a hill and don't care about Flash Flood Warnings, turn them off. Don't want to be woken up by a Severe Thunderstorm Watch at 300am. Off again. The only things you can't turn off are Tornado Watches and Warnings.

I swear that town is STILL in the 1800's. They have to be the only place left on earth that doesn't have a Wal-Mart (or a decent restaurant).

Throw a few names out (privately if you like), I might just know who they are.

If you're trying to get people to move there, it just might work. We have the Bell Tower and NO Wal-Mart...

Totally forgot about the 'singing silo' as Jeffersonians refer to it. Much as I hate to admit it I have gone back a few times for the Bell Tower festival in June, mostly due to school reunions. Never attend their functions, just wait 'em out at the beer tent. Do you live there?
