    Re: Tired of Storm Warnings

I can't believe people actually CALL TV stations and complain about storm warnings. Wouldn't want to miss a few minutes of the crap that is on network would we?

Next time a tornado is bearing down on me I sure hope I don't miss any Earl.

    Re: Tired of Storm Warnings

Again, warning about storms and other weather threats is fine, but they don't need to be on the screen constantly. A quick scroll every 5-10 minutes would suffice.

    Re: Tired of Storm Warnings

You should've heard my wife screaming and yelling last night when ER was bumped for tornado warning coverage!

I've got the perfect way to avoid putting up with the coverage...other than for sports, I cann't remember the last time it was I've watched network TV ;)

    Re: Tired of Storm Warnings

You do realize that the National Weather Service issues the warnings correct? Unfortunately they don't have a tv station so they kind of rely on local stations to communicate the information.

That's why there are weather radios. God, as much as the local media pushes those things, i'd be curious to know if there is a home that doesn't have one.

Yes, and a quick scroll to show the warning would be fine. KCCI has had the same damn flash flood warning up on the screen constantly all morning. I don't care about it right now, but imagine if this were in the middle of the NCAA championship game and they were warning about flash floods. If you're being flash flooded, you probably already know it.

I have one and last night I nearly fell out of bed when the thing went off with a watch about midnight or so. I live in the country and therefore we don't have any warning sirens etc. The thing gives me peace of mind knowing that I will never be able to sleep through a severe storm.

Do you know what a FLASH flood is? You wouldn't know it until it happened. I don't know about you, but I would like some kind of warning. You probably know a tornado is hitting your house too, but again, that is something I would like to know prior to the event.

People will truly complain about anything.

Yeah, that's the only bad thing, those things will sit you straight up in bed in the middle of the night when they go off.

The other night when there were something like 3 warnings bam bam bam for Polk County, I was about ready to take the batteries out of the darn thing.

considering we were in the basement two different times and used, radio, TV and Internet for information, I am glad they cut in as often as they did.

Could someone inform me of what these weather radios are, don't think I have ever seen one before. They sound kind of annoying though.

It's automated. The warnings come from the weather service, they are picked up by software and presto-chango, there is a bug on your screen.

It's a public service for a broad area. My advice to you would be to get over it and be thankful when it is your life and property at risk.

Once programmed, they will automatically turn on and basically alert you whenever a severe weather watch or warning is issued for your county.

The local TV stations are constanly talking about them.
