So pretty much we cannot do anything anymore. Just sit in our shack houses and wait to die? Come on, golf is a nice little walk, ruined by an evil little white ball that always seems to fly to the right!

Your missing the point. Its not boring. Its that the lack of sunlight that creeps up on us from late October and persists until March does odd things to us.

I'm just now climbing out of my mentally deranged cocoon.

The real evil that is Golf, is that all that open space could be put to use as a Shooting Range, instead of being wasted for "golf".

Screw the environment. I am helping the environment when I replace my divots!

    You might like this area.

We don't have any golf courses and just about everything outside of city limits could be considered a shooting range.

Ummm, let me summarize my thoughts: Oh well. I've taken divots that might be considered devastating to the environment.

The ironic thing is the ad at the bottom of this page..."Skye Golf in the Whitecap Mountains"

The only thing I see bad for the environment from the golf courses is the equipment that it takes to make them. Besides that, you've maniuplated the natural earth into a beauty that can be enjoyed by those who choose to. Even non-golf enthusiasts can say that some of the best landscapes are those framed out by golf courses.

Well, the equipment and the thousands of pounds of chemicals and fertilizer and the runoff from that. Then there are all the golf carts with little to no emissions control, the manufacture of all the equipment, and the ore to make it (Titanium and Beryllium in particular) etc. I mean overall there could be a good deal of environmental impact. Not nearly as much as something like NASCAR, for instance, but certainly a good deal of it.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE golf. I play 3-5 times a week. But there is at least some negative impact.

Thanks, I didn't think of all that. But it still shows that just about everything can impact the environment in some way. Its how you go about it that makes the differenec. There are fertilizers that are more organic that most, golf cars that are electric, and local manufactures that can cut down on the travel of these materials.

Now you get into the relm of being Green. Instead of getting everything over seas, or across the nation, people need to look more local and more sustainable. Building green means lasting longer along with being more friendly to the environment. The old way of making golf courses was probably just as unhealthy as your local food processing plant down the street if you want to break it down, but now technology allows us to change that.
