    HOT TUB HELP

i bought a house that came with a hot tub-nice right. well now the pump has gone out on it which costs $300 to fix. also, i have a leak in one of the jet lines because there are air bubbles coming out of one of the jets when the pump isn't on. i called my local dealer and they said it would probably cost $1,500 to fix everything. the problem is that it is a 1994 model, and it isn't worth $1500. so now what do i do? i'm trying to find a "do-it-yourselfer to buy it with the hope they think they can fix it, but will probably only get about $500 as is. I also have a redwood gazebo top that goes with it, and i heard they can be worth more than the tub itself. would asking $1500 for the set be ridiculous? anyone know someone that could fix it for less than the dealer quoted me? i've called several and they are all priced about the same. i'd like to keep the thing, but don't have the cash to get it fixed right now, but i would be willing to let it go if the price was right. sorry for the rambling, thanks in advance.

    Re: HOT TUB HELP

Hope you own a moving company also. My neighbor moved back to California and left his $6k hot tub with the house. Difficult to pick up and move. I would fix the moving parts first.

    Re: HOT TUB HELP

When I was in junior high we moved into a house with an inground pool and a hot tub...which we thought was the coolest thing in the world. Not only is it a TON of work for upkeep...but repairing is ridiculously expensive for both. I am not sure about places in central Iowa for repair. We had to get a new pump once and my dad replaced it himself.

    Re: HOT TUB HELP

I too bought a house with a hot tub (didn't know that did you chadm?).

but after putting ~$1000 in repairs/needed upgrades since 2003... I am tearing it out in the next two weeks to use the concrete deck below it as a grill/rec area. The expenses in utilities alone and then the chemicals... i am saving $$ by removing it.

    Re: HOT TUB HELP

wait till you have kids.. the time in the HT goes WAY down.... probably until they are 7-8 ish.

My plan is to remove the HT and buy a really nice, over the top, grill in that area along with other summer party hosting pieces.

Put it on craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums

It costs you exactly zero to list the hot tub and it get's all kinds of traffic. I'm sure you can sell it to someone on there lurking, but if not you didn't spend anything to list it........

    Re: HOT TUB HELP

Had a hot tub for 2 years and learned enough that I will never own one again.

A hot tub, pool, etc. is kind of like a boat. You want to have friends that have one you can use, but you don't want to own one.

Pain in the butt. I bought mine new from Hot Springs Spa for $4500 and sold it for $2K to some farmer 2 years later.

    I do not miss it.
