Cool What Laptop Should I Buy? Please Help

Fellow Clones, I need some advice.

I'm looking to buy a laptop for my mom (she is 62). She wants a laptop with wireless so she can use it in any room in the house, etc..

She will primarily be using it to surf the Internet, email and a little Excel and Word. I'm thinking she needs a big screen (17 inch) as it's not like her eye sight will be getting better with age. Besides that, what laptop do you recommend I buy and where should I buy it from? I'd prefer a mom & pop computer store rather than Best Buy but I'll go to Best Buy if I have to. I live in Ankeny. Thanks for any advice!!!!

    Exactly what I have, too.

It's been great, and I got a good deal on it, too.

You get yours at the end of the summer? They are pretty popular, and after 9 months, absolutely 0 problems.

I think mine has frozen like 5 times - can't complain about that.

You can get great deals from Dell and I've had great luck with their support. Don't buy a HP. I have one and have multiple problems and their support sucks. Macs are cool and all but expensive.

No, I got mine in December. I found a $500 off coupon paired with a $200 gift card deal.

    I've had no major problems.

Re: What Laptop Should I Buy? Please Help

Instead of going with a laptop with a 17" screen. Get a smaller 14 or 15.4 screen and use the money you saved to buy a LCD moniter, for her to connect the laptop to where she will use it most.
Those laptops with the larger screens can get rather bulky to move around.

I agree. My HP has a 17" screen and it weighs a ton. Battery life sucks too.

I seem to be one of few with a good report but I'm glad I bought mine from Best Buy. A little pricier, but the warranty has more than paid for itself. I've never really had issues with Geek Squad but I seem to be the minority. I will not recommend a computer, but I will say avoid a Mac if you don't know how the OS and stuff works. If your mom has problems, she'll probably be calling you asking for help so make sure it's something you're familiar with...or you can just tell her to go to CycloneFanatic.com and post a topic about it

You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you got anything besides a Mac. I've used PC all my life, but I currently use a Mac and I'll never go back!

I will hunt you down and slap you if you buy a mac book air, and for the sake of me get a pc. Even though I own a MacBook Pro I hate mac users, the lot of them are so damn elitist.
