    Iowa City -Chicago rail service

Iowa City-Chicago rail service on track | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register

An Amtrak passenger train between Chicago and Iowa City, via Davenport, would be expected to attract 187,000 passenger annually, Amtrak officials said today.

An Amtrak study released today at a press conference at the University of Iowa said the ridership forecast is based on twice-daily round trips and if improvements are made allowing train speeds of 79 mph. Many U of Iowa students are from Illinois and could be expected to be regular riders on the train along with Iowa residents.

Sounds pretty nice...I'm all for passenger railservice in the midwest.

So... speaking hypothetically, how hard would it be for a UofI athlete to use it as a "getaway train?"

I'm guessing it's going to be connecting the prisons or courthouses?

I can't say I would have ridden that train often... but if it was there I'd have probally taken a trip or two to Chicago for a weekend get away with my friends here and there... and I'm sure others would do the same.

A group of friends and I are planning a Chicago trip in August and plan on taking the train from Osceola... When you figure in gas and parking, it just makes sense.
