    Laptop memory

Our laptop could use some speed enhancements. Currently has 2 512mb memory chips, can go up to 1gig each - total 2gig.

    Looking at...

Computer memory upgrades for Sony VAIO VGN-AX580G Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com

Any better options - as in better memory?

    Re: Laptop memory

Crucial usually gives the whole run of options, and crucial is a respected, reputable brand when it comes to RAM chips. 667MHz DDR2 is pretty good, and if Crucial doesn't list anything higher than that, your motherboard probably can't support it. Crucial is the brand that we order at the bookstore for computers for ISU Departments, so you can rest assured you're not getting bottom of the barrel junk.

    Re: Laptop memory

I havent found much memory better than others in laptop memory. Crucial is decent, but you can probably find cheaper memory in Kingston, PQI, or Corsair.

    Re: Laptop memory

I have no problem spending $50 on 2gig of RAM...so price in this instance isn't an issue. Tired of my laptop slowing way down or freezing when I'm editing images.

Thanks for the feedback so far, looks like I have a good option.

If you want to save a few bucks, check out this money at Newegg.com:

    Newegg.com - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory - Laptop Memory

Newegg is a GREAT site. They have the cheapest prices and very fast shipping.

    Re: Laptop memory

I've shopped on Newegg before, very good reseller.

The link you posted is for a different product though...unless its virtually the same - just with someone else's logo on it.

    Re: Laptop memory

Yeah, it's just a different brand but the memory itself is the same.

    Re: Laptop memory

The only other place I would check out is TigerDirect, very resonable pricing and almost anything you want dealing with computers. I would try to find at least DDR2 memory for your laptop. But make sure that your motherboard will be able to fit the memory and for the OS to be able to see the memory. Because if you have a 32 bit OS then it will only see about 3 GB of RAM. Just keep that in mind.

His machine can only accept 2GB, so the OS limits won't be of consequence.
