    How crappy is this

THis women has been called a cow her whole life because of her weight. Then she get's bipass surgery and contracts the human version of Mad Cow disease. So now she will still be called a cow. Not fair.

Doctors suspect a 22-year-old Virginia woman has contracted the human variant of mad cow disease shortly after she had gastric bypass surgery, WAVY-TV reports.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, which affects roughly one-in-a-million people, is a degenerative and fatal brain disorder has been linked to tainted medical instruments and certain medical procedures, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Aretha Vinsonís health began to deteriorate three months ago, just after she had the surgery. First, her motor skills started to go and her memory faded. Now, the Portsmouth, Va., resident lies unconscious in a hospital bed.
There is no cure or treatment for the disease.
"The pain is just excruciating," said Vinson's mother, Robin. "I feel there's been a part of my life ripped from me."

    wow.. that is crule...

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: How crappy is this

I really don't want to get serious on this thread, but I will.

I would speculate that it is highly unlikely that she contracted CJD from the procedure. The median incubation period for the disease is thought to be 10-15 years. Further, any possibility of passage of the disease on medical instruments believed to be limited to brain tissue contact or corneal surgery where prions may be present. And this is just conjecture. The research to suggest routes of transmission is often a bit shaky. If she actually has CJD it probably was present prior to the time of the surgery.

No, I am not in medical research and I slept in my own bed last night - so I don't have the Holiday Inn thing going for me.
