    In-home bar

I'll be moving into a new home soon, and I've been granted "permission" to set up a little Iowa State stronghold in the basement. I've got a solid collection of memorabilia that will be displayed in an area near the tv, so now all I need is a little bar area where I can entertain guests during games.

I'm not looking for anything huge. Just a short bar that you can get a few people around. Does anyone know of some good places in the DM area where I can find something AFFORDABLE?

Something along these lines, I suppose.

    Re: In-home bar

build it yourself. Not all that hard for that type of furniture. In fact build the chairs too (buy the legs premade) and use custom seats? ISU maybe?

    Re: In-home bar

I've thought about it. I can certainly do it, but it would require a lot of work (more importantly, time) to get the kind of finish I would like to have. If I can't find something affordable, I may have to got that route.

    Re: In-home bar

i had the same self-conversation about my poker table. But the time it took to build was great (hunny, I need to work on the table... drink beer). The skills and lessons I learned were good ones and now I want to make a better quality table and maybe even sell a few. I would recommend learning a new trade... from drinking beer while you ponder your options to using the tools.

Homemakers is an option, they usually have at least 6 month zero percent interest at a minimum. Don't like Credit cards, but pretty easy to pay that off in that time, plus maybe you need more furniture!

    KD Amusements in Ames

They would have something that you are looking for I bet. They are in West Ames out by JAX on Lincoln Way.

Interesting. This was the kind of info I was looking for. I have never heard of this place, and I don't live more than 3 minutes from there. I'll have to check it out.

Make sure you take your check book to that place (along with an extra arm and leg that they will want)

Go to a furniture store, most have a couple of nice bar sets to choose from.

    Re: In-home bar

Another option is to install some semi-custom cabinets, like kraftmaid. In our basement, we went that route for the bar... making it more of a walk up, but it was also able to have a sink, a mini fridge, and quite a bit more storage. Then for the seating, we just put a counter height pub table and chairs across from it.

    Re: In-home bar

This isn't really a bar but more of a place to drink that I put in by basement. It's pretty much just framing, drywall, and countertop. I did it to cover up a poll in the basement but it's been very popular when we run out of room and people still want to watch TV.

Try World Market on University in WDM. They always have some cool/unique furniture, including bar sets and stools for a very reasonable price.
