Bob Huggins cleans up Manhattan

Critics of Bob Huggins who say the Kansas State basketball coach coddles unruly players might get an argument now.

Cartier Martin, the Wildcats' best returning scorer, was suspended from the team indefinitely Friday for unspecified conduct violations. Mario Taybron, a reserve guard, was dismissed from the team for violating the policy on substance abuse, athletic director Tim Weiser announced.

According to reports, he has already sprung a surprise drug test on the team and made spot class attendance checks.

Let my Fred's Posse Ride: Georges, Naz, Hogue, Bryce, Nader, Monte, Matt, and McKay.

That is one way to take it. The other way to read it is that Huggybear and Cartier did not get along and Ol' Huggybear needed an excuse to get rid of him. Huggybear may be trying to make the Wildcats "his team". Suspending the best returning player is a major statement.

I know I sound like a Hugs apologist, but his "weakness" is not how he treats guys who are in the program. He works their tails off and is very demanding. His weakness is in giving guys a shot who maybe are past deserving another shot. He has had an incredible influence on several young mens lives who others have given up on. People forget that and focus on the ones he gave a chance to who burned him...ala Berryman.
