    Michael Tate

I was looking at the summary of todays scrimmage on cyclones.com and was happy to see that Michael Tate is starting to make some plays. He had 2 tackles for loss on 3rd down plays. We really need someone to step up at DT. Maybe Tate can be that guy. He definately has the size at 6-4 295 lbs. From the group of Frere, Tate, Johnson, Weir, Black and Alburtis hopefully we can find 3-4 guys who are ready to go. The roster has Tate listed as a senior. Does anyone know if he was able to get a redshirt last season?

Chris Lyle's name also seems to be coming up a lot at DE this spring. At 6-3 and 258 lbs. he has decent size. He must be doing well in Coach Sheppard's program. I think he was listed about 15 lbs. lighter last fall.

    Re: Michael Tate

I think for us to have the kind of success we all hope for this season we need Tate to step up - he's one of the few D-Line guys we have with prototypical size and he's coming off a redshirt so he should know the system a bit even if he was banged up last year.

I honestly hope the D-line is Tate and Black at the starting spots. Maybe Johnson if he has gained some weight.

Edit: Regardless of who starts though, it would be nice to develop some depth and IMO D-Line is where we need to have guys REALLY step up.

    Re: Michael Tate

I agree that I would like to see the D-Line step up. ISU could win anywhere from 4 to 8 games this season and I think most of it hinges on the D-line.

I know ISU will have a 'rookie' QB but I think the QB just has to manage the game and not be asked to win the game for the 'Clones.

    Re: Michael Tate

I expected Black to be on the first team after the things I read about him on the scout team. Is he banged up or are the other guys just playing at a higher level? It would be nice to see what Frere can do healthy. I believe he has been banged up the last 2 seasons.

Cyclone33, any thoughts on the young linebackers; Bell, Mathis and Green?

Cameron Bell is a physical phenomenon, he just needs to polish up his basics, key steps, lateral work. etc. Ive also heard good things on Green

    Re: Michael Tate

Adam tore up his knee and never fully recovered. Basically they told him that he would never fully heal and probably wouldnt beable to play again. Adam has been helping out coaching a little bit.

    Re: Michael Tate

I was told by Tate himself that he only had one year left. It could be possible that he had submitted a med red and had not heard back yet at that point. I do know it was ankle/foot problems that he had lingering from JC that kept him out last year.

    Re: Michael Tate

My bad, I was sure that I read on here somewhere that he was going to get a redshirt for last year. Sorry.
