Time for Mediacom to step up to the plate....

    Comcast offers super-fast Internet speeds | U.S. | Reuters

If Comcast can do this with "channel bonding" then I think Mediacom could get some faster internet. I currently just have the 10mb/s and I think that is all the faster it goes, talk about a monopoly....

I did see we have recently acquired some more HD channels though (TNT and TBS) but I won't be happy until we get discovery, history, and comedy channels in HD.

    $150/month seems a little high.

I'm holding off on dropping mediacom until after the big analog dump next year. If that give medicom to broadcast every channel in HD I'll stay if not by by.

I have basic cable for free through our association, so I can't justify dropping mediacom. I really am a big fan of them dropping our internet connection all the time though! AWESOME!

Yeah, not really. I pay good money for them to at least maintain my connection outside of just basic cable. I understand it goes down once and awhile, but it was getting pretty regular...plus I've been through two cable boxes with them.

It isn't gonna happen. Just cause all broadcast TV has to be in digital does not guarantee everything in HD.

In fact... Even the DTV channels will still probably broadcast most everything in Standard definition.

From what I've seen from Mediacom in the past don't hold your breath for ANY new technology. They are always WAY behind.

This big analog dump has NOTHING to do with cable. All it means it off the air can no longer be analog. So there will be no more ch 8 over the air, it will be ch8.1 and 8.2 only. It has nothing at all to do with analog cable.

Only 10mbps???? I feel so sorry for you. I cannot get anything past 1.5mbps from quest, even though the guy across the street has 3mbps.

Can't you splice into it somehow, maybe with some wire strippers and duct tape?

I could take two satellite dishes....put them on my roof....cross modulate, reconstruct a data signal, and then go to my local mediacom office and beat the *&%! out of the guy in the back who owns the Porsche sitting outside that he paid for by screwing the customers.

The only way Mediacom gets more money from me for the digital/HD package is by picking up Comcast SportsNet.

Re: Time for Mediacom to step up to the plate....

Firstly, you likely aren't going to be getting a whole lot more HD channels from mediacom. There simply isn't enough bandwidth for them to increase capacity much beyond where it is now. HD channels take up a LOT of bandwidth. DirecTV had to launch 3 new satellites to get the capacity they have now, and they've also gone to MPEG-4 for new HD channels. Mediacom has no way to increase "bandwidth" without running new cables to everyone's house, which would be very very expensive. Their only other alternative is to start compressing the hell out of all their channels to free up more bandwidth. They did that with SD channels, and it looks like absolute garbage. You can see the pixellation so badly. It's a miserable product and a miserable company.

As far as super-fast internet goes, do you REALLY need more than 5-10 mbps? I mean sure it's nice, but there are very few providers now that can sustain even 10 mbps data transfers, let alone 100 mbps. There honestly aren't many applications I can think of for that kind of bandwidth for home users, at least yet.

I live in Ankeny too and was told I was getting their highest level of DSL. I live on the FAR north end of town.... you must be toward the south?
