Maybe D-Mac will do the Right Thing?

I Got Flamed for this On OCTOBER 23 rd

Let's step back a moment and consider the man we are torching with our posts. First, I am not a McCarney homer or on his bandwagon, however I will submit that he is a class person. He has represented my University well for 12 years as our football spokesperson, in spite of the constant spin he has done well. As a head coach is were I seperate myself from many others who post here. Lets agree to disagree concerning his recuriting and coaching abilities.

What has to be considered is the program and ISU, above all I want ISU football to be successful. Success is defined as fielding teams that can contend for the Big 12 North. I feel that D-Mac and Pollard are already talking, they have to be. Maybe not concerning every detail of Saturday's game but about the rest of the season and maybe the future. I submit that D-Mac has to know that the program is spinning out of control, in spite of all the positive things he utters. After all, Dan has never subscribed to the "Glass is half empty" deal.

    What if ?
D-Mac resigns his position for the good of the program and ISU. Putting ego's aside wouldn't he save face as to being fired?
Wouldn't that help with his buy-out, maybe come to an agreeable settlement that benefits him and ISU.
It would have to help from a recuriting stand point-now you have climate where uncertainty of coaching positions like a "Lame Duck" Head coach.
Contributions and Ticket sales are going to suffer big time, lets face it, Football pays for most everything! With new Football staff JP has something to market to, how do market tickets sales with D-Mac as head coach in '07??
Even if you wholesale replace assistants that isn't the answer folks! It starts and end's at the top.

Much has been said and written here concerning the "Program", I think Dan needs to Man UP! It is about the Football program and ISU not you Dan.

    LOL.

Would you resign your $1.1 million head coaching job?

Especially since you probably won't get many (if any) job offers to be the head coach at another Div. 1 school. And if you do, it will be at a mid-major program.

I sure as hell wouldn't just be be "noble".

I'd be amazed if Mac resigned. But then again, Snyder resigned from KSU last year after his great reign there...

Re: Maybe D-Mac will do the Right Thing?

DM is a great spokesman for ISU. Pete Taylor was a "big-name" (to ISU fans anyway) non-coaching entity who did a great job to promoting ISU athletics. I think he was able to be successful at promotion because he wasn't tied down by coaching duties. Since Pete passed away, ISU hasn't really had that kind of Cardinal-and-Gold-bleeding general athletic department promoter. ADJP is trying to take that on, but his AD duties will tie him down to some extent. I think DM could be the next Pete Taylor-type promoter for ISU athletics.

Perhaps DM could resign and move into the Athletic Department. That may not work though, as it may be too uncomfortable for the new coach to have the old coach still around and employed by the university.

WOW- I guess I am going to get FLAMED for this one! Can we all agree that Mac is a class act and honorable person? Was just trying to put it in perspective. Money talks (1.1 mil/year) and bull ***t walks, right? So much for "doing the right thing".

I forgot about Pleasantville ISUFan22, haven't lived in Iowa for over 10 years. Last time there it wasn't that pleasant, winter as I recall.

Are you saying work in AD department with JP and earn a million a year?
North Carolina needs a coach after this year. That would be a better option for him with the rah rah chatter sure to make their day. 12 years should result in better than a 5-3 conference season. Whether or not we are a pepetual Rutgers or Vanderbilt, we are doping the best we can with the playersd and staff we have. I take that back. I just checked the Vandy/Ruts records this year. They are better. How do they do it???

CFH HMagic bball season next year.
Let my Fred's Four Horsemen ride: Georges, Hogue, Nader, and McKay.

I seem to be in the minority, but I think that DM would have a rather difficult time finding a head coaching job in any of the BCS conferences. DM's last 5 years don't exactly make for a super-duper resume. If ISU is going to have to buy him out anyway, at least have him do some work for the money. He could do promotion for ISU.

Yer a bit too sensitive. Chill.

I think anyone and everyone that participates in online message boards has posted something and had mass disagreement with their point. It'll be ok.

I AGREE Mac has been a class act and a great representative for ISU. And NO Mac will NOT resign because no one can afford to give up that much money in this day and age.

Unless Mac wins the last 4 games this is not going to be a pretty sight no matter how it is handled.

Jamie Pollard has to walk a fine line between whats good for the football program and the wishes of the fanbase. If Jamie mishandles this it will take years to recover from this disaster of a season.
