    Blue Chips

I was watching the movie "Blue Chips" on ESPN Classic today and I couldn't help but think how the movie relates (or could relate) to former ISU coach Tim Floyd. For those who haven't seen the movie, its about a coach (originally from Louisiana) that coaches at a fictional college (Western University) in California. Anyway, the coach struggles for a season or two and needs to land a couple top recruits to save the program. Rather than go the clean route, he offers cars, money, etc. to the players in order to gain their committment. I'm not saying that Floyd did or would ever do this but the entire movie just made me think of Floyd and how he was able to land OJ Mayo last year. How much does that type of recruiting happen do you think????

I dont think the coaches character was from LA, just Shaq's.

Floyd said how a representative of Mayo's confronted Floyd, and said how much OJ wanted to go there. he wanted to be a superstar of Los Angeles like Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart. Floyd said he ddint even try to recruit him cause he was such a star in college, there was no way he'd go to USC for basketball.

Maybe you're trying to say Fizer was paid by Floyd to come here?

Either way, I dont really see a comparison. Was'nt he based on Bobby Knight?

When Danny Manning went to Kansas his father Ed was on the coaching staff. Before that Ed drove a truck for a living.

Cydar, is your avatar the "rare" curse word card, where he has **** written on his bat? Never seen it in person, heard a lot about it when i was growing up. I even have that complete set of cards.

And Mario Chalmers's dad just happened to get a job on the KU staff about the same time Mario came into Lawrence too....

It is well documented how Floyd got Fizer, and it was clean. Huggins tried to turn him in as he thought it was fishy, but there was nothing fishy about it.

I can't recall all the details but I think Fizer's mother babysat for Floyd when he was a baby or for Floyd's family or something. There was a personal connection to Fizer with Floyd's family.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Blue Chips is an underrated movie. Nolte is just great. Especially his pre game speech in the beginning of the movie. Hilarious.

Love that movie...and that kind of stuff definitely still plays a major part in college basketball, people just either don't admit it or won't believe it withouth "facts." Well, you're not going to find too many "facts," because if the "facts" got out, there wouldn't be illegal recruiting and well, too many teams would suffer the consequences. Blue Chips is very realistic and that's why I like it - and the fact that Shaq and Penny are in it :)
