    The most important question remains

Could ISU even afford a buyout of Mac's contract. My sources say no.

    Mine too.

Maybe we can just have 2 head coaches?

Re: The most important question remains

My sources say yes. I know a lot of the top boosters. The question is not weather they can afford one. It's a matter of do they want to afford one or wait it out another year when the price is cheaper for the buyout.

My bet after speaking to one of the top boosters is new offense coordinator and new defense coordinator. One year to get it done. Much like Solich went through at Nebraska.

Re: The most important question remains

That would be an absolute SHAME to lose Skladany. He is a great DC. I don't care what this year's results show. He does his job well. We had one of the best defenses last year, and they were the only reason we had as good a season as we had. As bad as our offense is this year, they weren't a whole lot different last year.

The difference from last year to this year is the slow defensive start in the first half. That is unfortunate for Skladany if it costs him his job. He deserves better. Look at our defense under him the previous few year.

I would agree with Skladany and Ash and I know Fitch is an important recruiter but I think he shares some of the offensive blame. Meyer has not looked good all year...I know he hasn't had the blocking but even when he does he either takes off running, takes a sack, and is prone to making bad throws.

I don't think he should be fired but I would be curious as to your opinion on Fitch's performance.

At the coach's clinic in April, I listen to a seminar from Ash and one from Fitch. Both impressed me a ton. Fitch talked about how 2005 was his fault as far as Bret not recognizing when to run and when not to. He felt Bret could have ate up a ton of yards on the ground last year if he'd of coached him better.

I also watched drills done by both Ask and Fitch at the indoor facility. They are always right on top of their guys and have no tolerance for mistakes.

I really think these two are going to make big splashes in their coaches future. Especially Ash.

No offense to anyone by why would anyone hate to lose Ash. Has anyone noticed our secondary? I could probably try out and start. WHy is the recruiting so bad in the secondary?

Somehow, Meyer has gotten worse this year than his first year. Improvements were being made each year with last year a great year for Meyer. How is it that he looks worse this year? He looks like a kid out of high school. He follows his primary target and doesn't check down. He takes long yardage losses on sacks when you should throw the ball away prior. Some decisions just don't seem smart this year. But, given all that, he isn't getting any help from his line or receivers, either. If this goes back to Fitch, then, he should go as well.

You fail to realize the young talent we have back there. And the fact the loss of Berryman is really hurting our secondary right now.

Smith should have started his 8th game Saturday. Instead, he played in his first.

We lost an NFL-caliber corner the previous week for the season.

Jason Harris made his first start Saturday at safety because of injury.

Stevie Johnson also made his first start at corner Saturday.

You tell me...what coach would do a better job there?

I am very, very excited about our secondary for the next few years. Smith and Johnson will be very good. I think Singleton is a solid corner also - he's had some nice break-ups. The other safety, who knows. But as a unit, this secondary will be good. They are just very, very young and banged up right now.

Re: The most important question remains

I think what may happen is most, if not all, staff stays on, but we hire a co-offensive coordinator or a passing game coordinator. Something like that to help the offensive scheme. I see a lot of teams executing a lot more complicated offensive attacks than we even attempt. This could be due to our inept offensive line, too.

I'm not completely sold on Skladany. I remember plenty of years where we had to score 40 to get it done. I think he's had a one maybe two good defenses in the last 12 years. Just because he's sucking less then the others doesn't mean he doesn't suck.

Re: The most important question remains

One thing that Pollard would need to consider is weighing the cost of lost ticket sales vs. the buyout cost

I do not claim to know what those figures are, but it may make more financial sense (cheaper in the end) to use the buyout than to lose X amount of ticket and other attendance revenue due to lost interest, not just for next year, but future years also need considering.

I don't think I am saying anything groundbreaking here, but if things continue the way they are going, there will be a significant drop in season ticket sales and single game sales for next year. The excitement about a new staff may minimize those losses.

    See basketball ticket sales.

Johnson looked lost, scared, clueless, etc playing on Saturday. I can't imagine that he looked like that in practice otherwise why put him out there. Brett Meyer #2 (Williams) was much better than Johnson.

I know we are young but don't we have enough talent to not allow Tech to rack up the yardage on us every drive? Their QB completed 80% of his passes and 6 TDs! Many of his TD passes were to receivers who were WIDE open.

I hope it's just growing pains...because it sure is painful to watch.
