Re: ESPN chronicles Cubs' 99 years of futility

I'm not a Cub fan or hater, but that article has to be brutal if you were a Cub fan.

The line I laughed the hardest at was this

The third basemen, led by Steve Buechele, hit .219 and slugged .300. By "led," we mean, "Hey, at least Greg Maddux won the Cy Young Award and we're sure the Tribune will sign him to a nice, fat long-term contract. We're sure he won't sign with the Braves, return to Wrigley on Opening Day 1993 and pitch a 1-0 shutout and then win three more Cy Youngs in a row. We're sure that won't happen, but if it does, at least we have Steve Buechele."

Re: ESPN chronicles Cubs' 99 years of futility

There are 3 teams I hate: Yankees, Red Sox, and of course the Cubs. I hate the Yankees and Red Sox because they are successfull and their fans let you know it and I am a Jays fan. I hate the Cubs fan because they are the Red Sox and Yankees just minus the success but their fans still tell you they are good.

Where are these Cub fans at?

I've been a Cub fan most my life (when I care about baseball). And pretty much all the Cub fans I know are the most pessimistic people regarding the Cubs, that I know.

BTW - "Wait til next year" isn't a point of fact - it's the longest running joke in sports.

The Cubs, not just that saying, are one of the longest running jokes in sports.

Re: ESPN chronicles Cubs' 99 years of futility

I'm surprised by all this animosity towards the organization that this state's only AAA baseball team belongs. I'm a Cubs fan because I'm an Iowa Cubs fan. I have no clue what makes people hate another teams fans when that team is known as a loser. Most people hate another teams fans when that team is successful. I admit I'm not as big a Cubs fan as I am a Cyclone fan, but categorizing me as a Hawkeye is crossing a line. I guess it takes a certain type of fan to lash out at another fan instead of just supporting your own team. It makes you very small.

i said comparable not exactly the same or categorizing as you stated. this would mean delusional predictions of success year in and year out when in reality they are never really that good

Don't those two sentences kind of contradict each other? Your first statement implies that there is something wrong with being a Hawkeye, but then your second sentence says that you have to be a special type to criticize a fan of another team.

bigred didn't specifically say you're just like the typical Hawkeye fan. He said that, as a whole, Hawkeye fans and Cub fans are pretty similar. I agree. That doesn't mean that every Cub fan is an idiot, nor is every Hawkeye fan an idiot.

It's like me saying that America is obese. Assuming you are American, that doesn't mean I'm calling you fat.

    "Your a hawkeye fan."

    "No YOU are."

Seriously, you people need to get a life . . . or a family at least . . . or some dignity.
