Pollard setting a new hiring record?

I wonder how many AD's of D-1 athletics have within the first 18 months on the job had to replace 3 of the 4 most visble head coaches? Will Bill Fennelley be the only coach left standing of the big 4 by the end of year #2 under Pollard? Douglas retired, Morgan fired, McCarney the verdict is still out on, this would have to be some sort of record!

He can't say that he isn't getting "his" guys into the positions he wants...that's for sure.

What about Mark Farley? This is more than McC problem - I think the asistants have no answers either. The press conference at 1130 today should be interesting.

Re: Pollard setting a new hiring record?

While a part of me really wants to see this team win out its games and more then likley land in Pheonix for the Insight bowl, a part of we also wants this team to loose out so the decision is easy for Pollard, and we dont take as much hurt in season ticket sales and donations. Look at what is going on in Basketball this year, we are selling more season tickets with a first year coach and a team that is not expected to go anywhere. I think we could prob do the same thing with football. As I see it right now, I think we could seel more football season tickets next year with a new coach then we could if McCarney was brought back. It would be a very sad thing to see Dan go, but I am starting to think this might be the only answer!

Re: Pollard setting a new hiring record?

Ill take whatever hits you want to hand out. I would much rather see us win out and get to a bowl, but we go to a bowl and pollard is going to have a much harder time in making a decision at the end of the year as to what to do. If we do get rid of Dan, this year has got to be the year, wait, and it going to be much harder to bring in a good coach and be able to afford all the facility improvments. I am not EVER going to cheer against the cyclones, EVER! I am just saying that if we were to loose out, the decision would be a no brainer for Pollard and we could move into the next era and be ready to show off all our facilty improvments with a basketball and football team that is able to compete with the rest of it conference.

Re: Pollard setting a new hiring record?

Who says a decision can even be made this year. There is the buyout and I think that plays just as big of a part, if not bigger - than our final record.

It may be a sad fact, but it's true. We don't have deep pockets and we have a lot of other initiatives going on right now.

I don't know if its a record or not, but I do know that every Athletic Director in this country wants his appointees in all the high profile jobs. Thats the jobs that define the university for which the AD works. At Ia State and Kansas U for instance this would be mens basketball. At Nebraska U and Oklahoma U it would be football. I know I know this is a gross oversimplification but thats just how the process seems to work.

All the other sports the AD can live with holdover people from his predecessor.

Its interesting that Jamie Pollard keeps talking about basketball, wrestling and volleyball during the football season. I cant remember another ISU Athletic Director that did this during the football season, usually it was after or at least at the tailend of the football season. I think Jamie has prioritized his sports and mens basketball and wrestling rank very high on Jamies list.

Why Can't we buy him out and pay a coach 900K a year? Wouldn't that even out the costs of his regular salary?

The buyout is actually pretty small and it is ammortized over the remaining term of Dan's contract. It is just slightly north of $200k per year - about 769 season tickets per year, if my math is correct.

That is the question is getting rid of Dan or keeping Dan worth 769 season tickets?

Would a new coach bring in an additional 769 season tickets per year for the next 5 or so years?

I think if the fans saw a new hire as really being a big step forward, I think we'd grab an extra 769 season tickets easily..

Ok, see, this is what I've been talking about the whole disrespect thing for mac. Is ittimefor state to move on? most likely. but for where we were and where mac has brought us, he doesn't deserve a comment like that.

be a cyclone. have some class. or go east.
