    Van Coleman's on Jon's show....

He had HIGH praise for Mann. He said Mann was "nasty" and will be playing alot of minutes next season. I love the word "nasty" when it comes to big men for ISU.

Van also said it was too much for Buckley to come right in and take over the point guard position. He said it will take Buckley a little time to get use to set offenses run by GMac. However, he said Lucca is more than capable playing some point for us.

He thought ISU had perhaps the best tandem in Craig and Wesley coming back in the Big XII. Good interview by Miller today. I wish I could've caught the Pollard interview.

I'm not sure I recollect correctly, but didn't Coleman say that Mann is capable of guarding 6-foot-10 players (that is, big post guys)? Or, did I not hear that correctly?

He did. He also inferred that Mann could take it inside or draw guys out from the paint.

I've long said Buckley wouldn't be the answer at PG his freshman year. You never know how these HS guys will adapt to the big time. He may thrive right out of the gate but don't bank on it.

I think Buckley's season next year will be a lot like Diante's season this year. Some ups, some downs and a strong finish.

Re: Van Coleman's on Jon's show....

    Cool to read about, thanks!

I do have to disagree with Craig and Wes being the top returning duo. They are great players, but that is probably overstating it.

A lot will depend on who comes back I guess but these are some of the better returners:

    Texas - Augustin, Abrams
Kansas - Arthur, Rush, Chalmers, Collins (pick 2 unless 3+ go pro)
Kansas State - Beasley, Walker (won't happen, but technically could)
Oklahoma - Griffin and ? (Griffin may not be back)
    Baylor - Jerrells, Dunn (meh)

If enough of those guys go pro, Iowa State's returners will definitely be up near the top as a pair.

have you ever got caught outside In a strong rainfall? Yes or NO. If it"s yes, then you might half felt the pane of hard(tought) rain on you head. If it hurt"s then it"s tough. Yes or no. Okay I'm right and you know it.

So alothough you attempt"ed to say you didn"t understnad, now you do. Fair enough?

Augustine, Arthur, Rush, Beasley, Walker, and Griffen are almost surefire NBA early entries. If there was a Cybookie event on it, I would go all in.

I like Van, and I know he's watched all of these guys play and I haven't... but I've never heard him say guys are a reach. Van super hypes up every recruit when talking about guys going to ISU and Iowa. I can't take him seriously.

Yeah, you're right on the mark concerning Coleman, imho. Reminders about Coleman's limitations are good. His observations are kinda interesting when he talks about a particular player's abilities, but overall, well. . . .

Arnt McD and Van friends in some way? I could be wrong, but I thought I heard one time where they talk some. What Van is saying could be stuff McD has told him. Like I said I could be wrong. Van had high hopes for CJ also and look what happened there. He was 100% right on what type of player CJ is, where he missed on CJ was him fitting in to the system.

I got to watch Mann play earlier this season. You could tell he wasn't having his best game but this kid is a stud. Alot more athletic than one would imagine. I honestly can't believe that ISU and Iowa were his only scholarship offers.

I believe Creighton wanted him, too. But I think Iowa and ISU were the only BCS schools after him.

It is hard to get too excited about a freshman anymore. It seems like unless they are like Odem or Beasley it takes a good year to make a huge impact.
