    New Golf Clubs

Since we have pretty much nil for topics on ISU I thought I would turn to golf. I am trying to help out a friend buy some new clubs. I myself have got last year's Nike Sumo2 driver and Nike Slingshot OSS irons (my fairway woods just stay in the bag because I can't hit them). I absolutely love these clubs. They are the best I have ever swung personally. But of course my buddy doesn't want to have the same clubs as me.

    Does anybody have any recommendations?

Can't help, I have the same as you.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

    Handicap? Swing speed?

I use the Nike Pro Combos and love them, forgiveness in the long irons and more control with the short irons.

I have the taylormade OS irons and they have been worth every penny. I also love my G2 Ping Driver. I have never been so satisfied with the clubs I have bought than right now.

    Re: New Golf Clubs

I have the Cleveland TA-7 Irons. I love them. I hate those slingback irons Nike makes and all those wide cavity ones also. The TA has a small cavity but feel sort of like blades. I love them. Cleveland has a new iron that I want, the CG series. I want to stick with cleveland because I've never liked Irons as much as I do the TA's. They actually make a really good iron now, and not weird like they did 10 years ago.

I've never enjoyed any Nike product. I think you pay too much for anything that has Nike or Titleist written on them.

Does anyone have the new titleist driver? If so, what do you think of it?
I have the 905T and love it.

He is a weekend golfer. I am not sure what exactly his handicap would be. I went to the range with him the other day so just by observing, I would guess his swing speed to be upper 80's or so.

I told him to just fix his swing before buying new clubs. He is a big meat head so his swing is 95% upper body. If he actually used his legs he would absolutely crush the ball.

    Re: New Golf Clubs

I bought a set of Titleist 804 OS irons and they have literally changed my game, they are oversized, offset a little bit and are forged metal. They are so easy to hit and have dropped my handicap to about a 7. I also have a Titleist driver which I like and recommend.

Basically I recommend getting a good set of offset irons if you struggle with the slice like I did. Also you need to consider the types of shaft and length clubs you get. Custom fit is the way to go.

    Re: New Golf Clubs

I would go to Golf Galaxy or Austad's or someplace to have them analyze his swing and narrow down some options that way.

Definately something oversized and cavity back... Untill you get to the point you are shaping shots and trying to control ball flight you don't need anything else... My recomendation, find a set you like and mark down the price. Buy a used set similar for half the cost and use the savings to get lessons...

    Re: New Golf Clubs

Adams A2 can be had new for under $300 at Rockbottomgolf.com. They have a 3 & 4 hybrid and the rest are regular irons but are definitely Game improvement irons for the weekend hack.

You can't beat them for price and Adams makes quality sticks.

Not to many players should be hitting a regular 3 iron anymore anyway.

    Re: New Golf Clubs

He needs to get some cavity back clubs if he is just a weekend golfer. Those offer more foregiveness for the average golfer. I'm not really great but I play Titleist 690 MB and love them. I have a nike drive, a callaway fairway wood and titleist wedges. And a Odyssey White hot putter. You cant really go wrong with taylormade, callaway, cleveland, titleist and nike has gotten better. Mizuno makes the best iron period, Im left handed so I couldnt get forged muscle back irons. Mizuno makes forged which is less forgiveness but alot better feel

I have hit the new 907 and the 905T, both great drivers. I have had the 983K for a while now and still love it although it is undersized at 365cc for todays standards. I am Titleist for life now.
