    Pollard on McDermott . . .

During a KXNO radio interview today, Jamie Pollard was asked about McDermott's MBB program and its state of development at this point.

I missed the first part of JP's answer, but I did hear him say that because of all the turmoil at the time of Greg's hiring two years ago, he considers next season to be Greg's first at ISU. Interesting. . . .

I've stated my humble opinion before that I considered this season to be Greg's first in Ames because of all the hurdles Greg had to jump over last year just to build a quick roster. And now JP says he considers the just-finished season to be part of the troubled transition period, too.

Many here won't do it, but I'm going to follow JP's lead and consider next season to be Greg's first important (from a program-development standpoint) season at ISU. It'll be the first season in which he's got some experience returning across the board, the first season in which the tough transition period doesn't define who and what the team is all about.

Just passing along what JP had to say today about the ISU MBB program. . . .

So we shouldn't expect a winning season until 2010-2011.

Why can't Greg post a winning record in his "first" season at ISU?

But ... but ... all of the experts here say it happens in his third season.

    Re: Pollard on McDermott . . .

Yeah, with the loss of two of our best players and bringing in five newbies, next year or McD's first, the record should be about the same as his uncounted two years.

Unfortunately the competition was tougher in the Big 12 this past year than the previous year. We still have two Big 12 teams in Sweet 16 and have the second best conference.

The Road to Amarillo is a Long Road.

In addition, Missouri, Nebraska and Colorado should be better next year.

Jamie didn't say it was his first, he said this will be the first with all Greg's pieces in place. I took that to mean he expects to win starting now.

I think getting butler and vanderbeeken could make for a decent year next year. NIT to bubble type team.

Remember when we went to the NCAA's with regularity under Orr, Floyd, and LE? Even Morgan got us in the NCAA. Now we don't even sniff the NIT. Oh well, maybe next year will be better.

If we're not sniffing postseason play by then, maybe it will be his first season, just not here.

Morgan got us into the NCAAs under LE's talent. Did you miss the part about missing the post season completely in 2005-06?

I'm quite aware of missing out in the 2005/06 season, but hey thanks for reminding me.

    Re: Pollard on McDermott . . .

not sure what everyone expected from gmac but keep in mind this program has only been to the ncaa tourney one time since the hampton loss. sad as that might be it will take time to return to a nice competitive level. we also have never been to the ncaa's three years in a row so saying we went with regularity isn't real accurate info. we have the right coach but it will take some time.

    Re: Pollard on McDermott . . .

IMHO, next season's slogan is "A Reason to Believe".

2009/10 slogan's is, "We're Back" and from then on we fight for Big XII Championships and with that comes great runs in the "Dance".

Patience and if you don't have it go root for EIU. I'm just saying....

Third season, first season . . . we've got all the bases covered, then, don't we?
